والأخلاق شكرا

O marvel of art and letters,

O excellent in art and literature

and of moral character—thank you.

لم أرد أن أنظم الشكر

لم أرد أن أنظم الشكر

ولكن جاء شعرا

ولكن جاء شعرا

I did not intend to put my gratitude into verse,

I did not intend to rhyme gratitude

and yet it came forth as poetry.

But it came as verse
