أَكَامِلُ فيكَ اجْتَلَيْنَا الكَمَالَ

أَكَامِلُ فيكَ اجْتَلَيْنَا الكَمَالَ

وَكُلُّ عَلَى صدْق قَوْلي شَهيد

وَكُلُّ عَلَى صدْق قَوْلي شَهيد

O Kamil, in you we have beheld perfection,

In you we found perfection achieved

And everyone bears witness to the truth of my words.

And all bear witness to the truth in my words

فَضَائلُ دينٍ وَدُنْيَا جَمَعْنَ

فَضَائلُ دينٍ وَدُنْيَا جَمَعْنَ

وَأَنْتَ لَهُنَّ الْنِّظامُ الْفَريد

وَأَنْتَ لَهُنَّ الْنِّظامُ الْفَريد

Virtues of faith and worldly life have come together,

Virtues of faith and worldly life combined

And you are their peerless thread.

And you are their unique harmonious system

وَشَتَّى علومٍ وَشَتَّى فُنُونٍ

وَشَتَّى علومٍ وَشَتَّى فُنُونٍ

تَأَلَّفَ منْهُنَّ عَقْدٌ نَضيدُ

تَأَلَّفَ منْهُنَّ عَقْدٌ نَضيدُ

And diverse sciences and diverse arts—

Various sciences and diverse arts

From them a neatly strung necklace has formed.

Formed of them a sturdy necklace

حِجىً ملْهَمٌ يَتَلَقَّى الهدَى

حِجىً ملْهَمٌ يَتَلَقَّى الهدَى

فَتَبْدئُهُ مُفْصحاً أَوْ تُعيدُ

فَتَبْدئُهُ مُفْصحاً أَوْ تُعيدُ

An inspired intellect that receives guidance,

Inspired reason that receives guidance

So you voice it eloquently, first or anew;

Which you begin eloquently or repeat

وَرَأْيٌ يُزَكِّيهِ كَرُّ السِّنينَ

وَرَأْيٌ يُزَكِّيهِ كَرُّ السِّنينَ

إِلى خبْرَة كلَّ آن تَزيدُ

إِلى خبْرَة كلَّ آن تَزيدُ

And judgment refined by the passing years,

Opinion purified by the passage of years

Alongside experience that grows with every moment;

To experience growing in wisdom each instant

وَقُوَّةُ نَفْسٍ إِذَا صُرفَتْ

وَقُوَّةُ نَفْسٍ إِذَا صُرفَتْ

فَمَا من بَعيدٍ عَلَيْهَا بَعيدُ

فَمَا من بَعيدٍ عَلَيْهَا بَعيدُ

And strength of spirit which, when brought to bear,

Strength of spirit - when exerted

Finds nothing far off beyond its reach;

No distance remains too distant

وَصدْقُ يَقينٍ سَواءٌ عَلَيه

وَصدْقُ يَقينٍ سَواءٌ عَلَيه

أَوَعْدٌ أَلَمَّ به أَمْ وَعيد

أَوَعْدٌ أَلَمَّ به أَمْ وَعيد

And true conviction, to which it is all the same

Sincerity of conviction whether

Whether a promise comes its way or a threat;

A promise that delighted or a threat

وَجَوْدٌ نَصَرْتَ به الْبَائسينَ

وَجَوْدٌ نَصَرْتَ به الْبَائسينَ

عَلَى دَهْرهمْ كَائداً مَا يَكيد

عَلَى دَهْرهمْ كَائداً مَا يَكيد

And generosity with which you have aided the wretched

Generosity by which you aided the wretched

Against their fate, thwarting whatever it plots;

Against their fate scheming whatever it schemes

وَطَبْعٌ وَديعٌ سوَى أَنَّهُ

وَطَبْعٌ وَديعٌ سوَى أَنَّهُ

عَلَى كُلِّ مُغْرٍ بسُوءٍ مُريد

عَلَى كُلِّ مُغْرٍ بسُوءٍ مُريد

And a gentle disposition, except that it

Gentle nature except that it is

Is defiant toward every tempter to evil,

To each rogue intending evil, a foe

لكُلِّ نَديد وَفيمَا بَذَلْتَ

لكُلِّ نَديد وَفيمَا بَذَلْتَ

منَ الْيَد وَالنَّفس عزٌّ نَديد

منَ الْيَد وَالنَّفس عزٌّ نَديد

Toward every rival; and in what you have given

To each rival and in what you spent

Of hand and soul lies unassailable honor.

Of hand and soul - mighty, matchless glory

أَلاَ أَيُّها السَّيدُ المْمُجْتَبى

أَلاَ أَيُّها السَّيدُ المْمُجْتَبى

أَلاَ أَيُّها اللَّوْذَعيُّ الْمَجيدُ

أَلاَ أَيُّها اللَّوْذَعيُّ الْمَجيدُ

Behold, O chosen master,

Behold! O chosen master

Behold, O brilliant, illustrious one,

Behold! O magnificent, splendid chief

لقَوْمكَ ممَّن دَنَا أَوْ نَأَى

لقَوْمكَ ممَّن دَنَا أَوْ نَأَى

سيَامَتُكَ الْيَوْمَ عيدٌ سَعيدُ

سيَامَتُكَ الْيَوْمَ عيدٌ سَعيدُ

For your people, those nearby or far away,

For your people both near and far

Your ordination today is a joyous feast,

Your leadership today is a joyous feast

وَفَتْحٌ لَهُمْ منْهُ مَا بَعْدَهُ

وَفَتْحٌ لَهُمْ منْهُ مَا بَعْدَهُ

وَبَعْثٌ لَهُمْ فيه عَهْدٌ جَديدُ

وَبَعْثٌ لَهُمْ فيه عَهْدٌ جَديدُ

And a triumph for them, the source of what comes after,

And for them after it an opening

And a rebirth for them, bringing a new era.

And through it a new covenant

إِذَا فَاخَروا بكَ فَاخِرْ بهمْ

إِذَا فَاخَروا بكَ فَاخِرْ بهمْ

فَهُمْ في بَني الشَّرْق غُرٌّ وَصيد

فَهُمْ في بَني الشَّرْق غُرٌّ وَصيد

If they take pride in you, take pride in them,

When they pride themselves on you, pride yourself on them

For among the sons of the East, they are radiant and proud.

For they are among Easterners unique and peerless

وَلَيْسَ بضَائرٍ أَنْسَابُهُمْ

وَلَيْسَ بضَائرٍ أَنْسَابُهُمْ

وَأَحْسَابُهُمْ أَنْ يُقِلَّ الْعَديدُ

وَأَحْسَابُهُمْ أَنْ يُقِلَّ الْعَديدُ

Nor does it harm their lineages

Nor is it shameful that their lineages

Or their ancestral honors that they are few in number.

And pedigrees be few in number

فَعِشْ وَتَوَلَّ الأُمُورَ الجسَا

فَعِشْ وَتَوَلَّ الأُمُورَ الجسَا

مَ كَمَا يَتَوَلَّى الأَمينُ الرْشيدُ

مَ كَمَا يَتَوَلَّى الأَمينُ الرْشيدُ

So live, and take charge of momentous affairs,

So live and take charge of weighty affairs

As the trustworthy, wise one takes charge.

As the trusted, rightly-guided guardian assumes responsibility

يَشدُّ قوَاكَ الشَّديدُ الْقوى

يَشدُّ قوَاكَ الشَّديدُ الْقوى

وَيَرْعَى خُطَاكَ الْعَزيزُ الحَميد

وَيَرْعَى خُطَاكَ الْعَزيزُ الحَميد

May the One mighty in power bolster your strength,

Your strong ally will back your strength

And may the Almighty, the Praiseworthy, watch over your steps.

And your noble, praiseworthy shepherd will watch over your steps

وَكيرلُلَّسْ لَكَ نِعْمَ الظَّهيرُ

وَكيرلُلَّسْ لَكَ نِعْمَ الظَّهيرُ

كَمَا هُوَ للدِّين نعْمَ العَميدُ

كَمَا هُوَ للدِّين نعْمَ العَميدُ

And Cyril is an excellent supporter for you,

Cyril will always be for you an excellent supporter

Just as he is an excellent leader of the faith.

Just as he is for the faith an excellent pillar

هُوَ البَطْريَركُ الَّذي نَالَ مِنْ

هُوَ البَطْريَركُ الَّذي نَالَ مِنْ

وَلاَءِ رَعيَّته مَا يُريد

وَلاَءِ رَعيَّته مَا يُريد

He is the patriarch who has won from

He is the patriarch who obtained from

His flock the devotion he desires.

His flock’s loyalty what he desired

لَهُ في الجِّهاد مَدىً طَائلٌ

لَهُ في الجِّهاد مَدىً طَائلٌ

سَيَتْلُوهُ في الْخَيْر عُمْرٌ مَديد

سَيَتْلُوهُ في الْخَيْر عُمْرٌ مَديد

He has a long record of striving;

In jihad he has great, far-reaching feats

A long life in goodness will follow it.

Followed in goodness by an extended lifetime
