The delights of radiance follow it.

And generous in your roots and lineage.

Though I was not one to be kept away from you.

    Surging—moves within my beating heart.

And against sorrow deferred there is no protector.

The harm you went on suffering and facing?

While you drank dregs from a brimming cup.

And sweet to the living, is bitter to taste.

What an injustice, that a branch should be severed,

Lush with fresh flowers and leaves.

A shadow should pass, afflicting it with darkness.

Even the sweetest sound jars upon the ears

    After your gentle, tender words.

Few have lived as you lived,

In a state so free of suspicion and hypocrisy.

Aiding those with illness and those in poverty.

In noble deeds—may I be your ransom, foremost racer!

In earthly life, ascending toward glory,

And in death, ascending toward God.

You prepare for eternity an image made perfect

In its adornments, grand and delicate.

    Death tore it painfully away

From the dark cores of hearts and eyes.

Befell his yearning twin because of it?

Have been allies in love and companions in embrace.

We cannot hold the tears within our eyes?

And little, in that sorrow, can be taken

From its anguish by companions sharing it.

In his affliction, he has nothing but the help of

God, and His kindness and compassion.

And the surest remedy, when the wound brings one near death,

Is the creature's seeking refuge in the Creator.

And receive a share of His bounty.

What piety, what faith, and what earthly life

Carried his bier upon their necks!

Be measured, you who bid him farewell, for

His remoteness has not barred every reunion.

If the face of the departed beloved is lost to you,

The face of the beloved who remains is not.
