New Egypt has a joyous festival,

Shining forth on this lovely day.

And the beauty of its adornments is enhanced

By the sky's clarity and the breeze's gentleness.

Do you not see her as she comes forth

    To welcome the great patriarch,

    Maximus IV, the chosen one,

The shepherd of shepherds, prudent and wise?

    Her communities received his retinue,

As he visited her amid widespread joy.

For at the celebration are the finest of her rulers

And her dignitaries, like pearls strung together,

And the finest delegations of piety and sure faith,

And the elite of those with intellect and sound judgment,

And the youth of the schools, and those engaged

In spreading the arts and sciences there.

They fulfill a duty owed to greatness

    By honoring that noble leader.

God be with him—what a righteous reformer,

And what a keen-witted man, resolute and decisive,

And what a man of resolve, and what a man of proud dignity,

And what a magnanimous man, generous and merciful,

And what a man lavish in generosity and self-sacrifice

For every distressed soul and everyone wronged,

And what a man who presses his claims, formidable in contention,

And what a forbearing man, forgiving and merciful!

O my lord, sufficient for you is the glory by which

You renew the glory of ancient times.

May your Lord grant you a long life

And bring you every success you seek.

And O king, whose Egypt has attained

Through you the sun's eminence among the stars,

Indeed, you have been the ablest of honor's defenders,

And foremost among them on the upright path.

God will grant you a mighty victory

    And forsake every sinful enemy.
