Najib, surely the loss for which flow
Najib, grief flows for it unceasing
your precious tears is a great loss.
No tear of yours can grief appease
مَضَىpassed away صَغِيرٌa little one جُلَّwas deemed great خَطْبُthe calamity of العُلَىglory

فِيهِ وَكَلاًّ لَيْسَ فِيكُمْ صَغِيرْ
A little one has passed away; great was glory’s loss
Though your sorrows be beyond measure
in him—and no! None among you is little.
Grieve not, for life is brief, joy flees
فِيin أَبَوَيْهِhis parents العَوَضُthe recompense المُرْتَجَىhoped for

In his parents lies the hoped-for recompense;
In your parents, solace lies
so let them both beget every radiant crescent.
Let each new moon bring joyful sighs
