دَعَاcalled الوَفَاءُloyalty وَهَذَاand this وَقْتُthe time تَبْيَانِclarification
فَاجْهَرْso proclaim aloud بِمَاof what شِئْتَyou wish مِنْof فَضْلmerit وَإحْسَانِand benevolence
Loyalty has called, and this is the hour of declaration.
Loyalty calls, and this is time for proof
So proclaim whatever you wish of merit and benevolence.
So proclaim what you wish of grace and kindness
وَاذْكُرْand recount صُروحاًlofty edifices لِسَمْعَانَfor Sam'an مُشَيَّدَةًerected
لَمْdid not يَبْنِهَاbuild them منin عُصُورٍages قَبْلَهُbefore him بانِيa builder
And recount the lofty edifices erected for Sam'an,
And tell of edifices for Samaan erected
Which no builder in the ages before him had built.
That no builder before him in eras built
نَهَىforbade تَوَاضُعُهُhis humility عنagainst أنto تَشِيدَyou extol بِهِof him
فَاليَوْمُso today لاَdo not تَكُbe لِلنَّاهِيto the one forbidding بِمِذْعَانِin submission
His humility forbade you to extol him;
His humility forbade that you extol him
So today, do not submit to the one who forbids.
So today do not fail to obey the prohibitionist
وَحَدِّثِand tell الشَّرْقَthe East وَالأَقْوَامُand the peoples مُصْغِيَةًlistening attentively

And tell the East, while the peoples listen,
And tell the East, and nations are listening
Of the stature he heightened for it through them.
Of the prominence he pioneered for it
ألَمْdid ... not? يَكُbe الشَّرْقُthe East مَهْدَthe cradle الفَجْرِof dawn أجْمَعِهِall of it

Was not the East the cradle of dawn in its entirety,
Was not the East cradle of dawn altogether
In every art we have acquired, and all knowledge?
In every art we took and knew?
تَجَاهَلَتْfeigned ignorance of قَدْرُهُits worth الدُّنْيَاthe world وَمَاand not جَهَلَتْwas ignorant

لَكِنَّbut قَدِيمٍwhat is ancient رَهْنُa hostage to نَسْيَانِforgetfulness
The world feigned ignorance of its worth, though it was not ignorant;
It overlooked his value, but not in ignorance,
But what is ancient is held hostage to oblivion.
Rather, an ancient one's hostage of oblivion
تِلْكَthose القِوَىpowers لَمْnot تَزَلْcease فِيin القَوْمِthe people كَامِنَةًlatent

Those powers remain latent in the people,
Those powers remained latent in the folk
Though the nights have folded them away for ages.
Though nights since ages shrouded them

They are the treasures which, if appraised, would reject,
They are treasures which, if evaluated, would spurn
For their preciousness, any valuation in money.
The preciousness of every estimate and price

Stagnation stood watch at its gates,
Stagnation kept guard over its doors
Until they shone forth, surpassing every expectation.
Until they shone forth, surpassing all reckoning
أمْجِدْhow glorious بِسَمْعَانَis Sam'an إذْwhen أَبْدَىhe revealed رَوَائِعِهَاtheir marvels

How glorious is Sam'an, who revealed their marvels!
Honor Samaan, as he displayed its marvels
And refute the doubter's argument with proof.
And refuted the claim of the skeptical with proof
فَقَدْfor indeed أمَاطَhe removed حِجَابَthe veil الرَّيبِof doubt عنfrom هِمَمٍaspirations

For he has lifted the veil of doubt from aspirations
He lifted the veil of doubt from aspiring spirits—
That, if unleashed, take the lead in every arena.
If freed, they would outstrip all in every field

And he followed his course in pursuit of the heights,
And he sought the heights, his conduct
Content with no station below Saturn.
Not content with any rank beneath the stars
فَعَزَّso he gained honor فِيin شَمْلِهِhis circle وَالشَّمْلُand the circle عَزَّgained honor بِهِthrough him

So he gained honor in his circle, and his circle gained honor through him;
So he was mighty in his unity, and unity mighty through him
And many an individual brings rebirth to homelands.
And many an individual with him a rousing for homelands

A new opening for this age, to be read in
Its heading the name of Salib and the name of Sam'an.
Its title the name of Salib, and the name of Samaan

Salim, the peerless luminary, whom
Salim the banner, singular sage, whose glow
Separation has carried far away, though he is near in his works.
Illuminated the ends—in his traces, humbling

The firm, resolute man, formidable in his bearing,
The resolute decider, formidable, his stance
And the giver, the forgiver, the [beloved], all at once.
The bestower, hand-shaker, plowed at the opportune time

In al-Saydnawi's great tree, which has soared
In the palm grove of the Sidnawi which gave full rein
To the clouds, they are twin stems in nobility.
To the two, peerless noble steeds

Twin stems: though separation has come between them,
Noble steeds—if estrangement comes between them
The second has flourished in the place of the first.
The second is certified in place of the first

And among their branches are those through whom endure
And in their branches are those who are sustained
The blessings of [both lives], for the survivor and the departed.
The best of two lives for the lasting and the perishing

From every lush meadow, with shade and fruit
Too sturdy for time to buffet with calamities.
Stalwart before time sweeps away the blossoms

Sam'an, may good fortune endure for you, and you endure for it;
Samaan, may you enjoy prosperity and endure for it
For you deserve it more than any other person.
For you are worthier of it than any human

Fifty years passed in noble
Nobly, in laying foundations and building.
Struggle between founding and building

Forgot, amid your gains, the wretched sufferer's share.
In prosperity the share of the suffering and helpless

No difference in a son when counted, or nephew—
And are they anything but equals and brothers?
Are they not counterparts and brothers?

They are the youth a nation prides itself on
In them when nations boast of their young men.
When nations have faded of champions
