What unity like the unity of nobles
who linked their little fingers in a pledge to do good?
Who have clasped their arms around benevolence,

And the trusted among the people of merit and knowledge,
and trustworthy men of virtue and learning:

Your cheering presence in this haven is a festival,
Among its people, grand is its affair,
of great significance to its people.
And I almost cannot fully thank you,
وَأَكَادُand I almost لاَnot أُوفِيrender fully لَكُمْto you شُكْرَانَهَاthanks for it

And I can scarcely give you all the thanks it deserves,
If I recited verses of thankfulness,
even if I fashioned verses of gratitude.

Shining which delights the eyes,
radiant, whose beauty delights both eyes.
There is nothing in you but an Egyptian nation,
مَاnot فِيكِwithin you إلاَّexcept أُمْةٌa nation مِصرِيَّةٌEgyptian
يَاO مِصرُEgypt وَلْيُبْتَرْand let it be severed لِسَانُthe tongue of الشَّانِيthe hater
Within you is but one Egyptian nation,
O Egypt, and may the tongue of the critic be cut off,
O Egypt—and let the hater's tongue be severed!
How excellent a sanctuary for one who belongs and grows
نِعْمَhow fine الحِمَىthe haven لِمَنِfor whoever انْتَمَىbelonged وَلِمَنْand for whoever نَمَىrose
مِنْfrom مَبْدَأِthe beginning of المَدَيِنَّةِcivilization الهَرَمَانِthe two pyramids
A fine haven for those who belong, and those for whom rose
From the principle of the two Harams,
the two pyramids at civilization's dawn!
If the foreigner finds with you hospitality,
إنْif يَلْقَfinds فِيكِin you الأَجْنَبِيُّthe foreigner ضِيَافَةًhospitality

If in you the foreigner finds hospitality
He has not found it in the most fertile of lands,
he has not found in the most generous lands,
How can another be more worthy? They have become your sons,
كَيْفَwhat of الأُولَىthose who أَضَحْوَاhave become بَنِيكِyour sons وَمَالَهُمْand they have no

what of those who have become your sons and have
And their wealth, a homeland other than you and no second place of return,
no homeland but you, nor another home to return to?
Those who expend souls for you lightly,
ألبَاذِلُونَthose who give لَكِto you النُّفُوسَlives رَخِيصَةًcheap

Those who offer you their lives, holding them cheap,
And the treasures of the world without prices,
and the world's treasures without a price.
And despite the differences in origins, all of them
وَعَلَىand despite التَّبَايُنِthe differences فِيin المَنَابِتِorigins كُلُّهُمْall of them

And despite their differing origins, every one of them
Are devoted in their love for her, self-sacrificing,
is dutiful toward her, self-sacrificing in his love for her.
By God, differences and tribes are not
تَاللهِby God مَاnot لِلتَّفْرِقَاتِfor divisions وَلاَnor القِلَىhatred
أغْلَىmade costly الفِدَاءَsacrifice أعِزَّةُthe noblest of الفِتْيَانِthe young men
By God, not for divisions or hatred
More precious than the sacrifice of the gallant youths,
did the noblest young men offer so costly a sacrifice,
But for a noble life it has been realized
بَلbut لِلحَيَاةِfor life كَرِيمَةًdignified قَدْindeed حُقِّقَتْhave been fulfilled

but for a dignified life in which have been fulfilled
In it the hopes for ascendancy and desires,
aspirations for greatness and hopes.

So may Egypt live free, rising toward
Her goals in felicity and safety,
her goals in joy and safety.
