وَفَاءًin faithfulness كَهَذَاlike this العَهْدِthe pledge فَلْيَكُنِso let it be الْعَهْدُthe pledge
وَفَاءً كَهَذَا العَهْدِ فَلْيَكُنِ الْعَهْدُ
وَعَدْلاًand in equality كَهَذَاlike this العِقْدِthe necklace فَلْيَكُنِso let it be العِقْدُthe necklace
وَعَدْلاً كَهَذَا العِقْدِ فَلْيَكُنِ العِقْدُ
Let every pledge be as faithful as this pledge.
With loyalty like this covenant, so let the covenant be,
And let every necklace be as evenly matched as this necklace.
With justice like this contract, so let the contract be,
قَرَانُكُمَاyour union (you both) مَاwhat شَاءَهُwished it لَكُمَاfor you both الْهَوَىlove
قَرَانُكُمَا مَا شَاءَهُ لَكُمَا الْهَوَى
وَبَيْتُكُمَاand your home (you both) مَاwhat شَادَهُbuilt it لَكُمَاfor you both السَّعْدُgood fortune
وَبَيْتُكُمَا مَا شَادَهُ لَكُمَا السَّعْدُ
Your union is what love has wished for you both.
Your marriage is what desire has willed for you,
And your home is what good fortune has built for you both.
And your home is what fortune has built for you,
فَقُرَّاso be content, you both وَطِيباand be happy, you both فَالْمُنَىfor the wishes مَاwhat رَضَيْتُمَاyou both have accepted
فَقُرَّا وَطِيبا فَالْمُنَى مَا رَضَيْتُمَا
وَدَهْرُكُمَاand your lifetime (you both) صَفْوٌserenity وَعَيْشُكُمَاand your life (you both) رَغْدُcomfortable abundance
وَدَهْرُكُمَا صَفْوٌ وَعَيْشُكُمَا رَغْدُ
So be content and happy, for what you both have accepted fulfills your wishes.
So reside happily, for contentment is what you have chosen,
And your days are serene, and your life is ease and abundance.
And your life is serene, and your living pleasant,
وَمَاand never جَمَعَbrought together اللهُGod النَّظِيرَيْنِthe two equals مَرَّةًonce
وَمَا جَمَعَ اللهُ النَّظِيرَيْنِ مَرَّةً
كَجَمْعِكُمَاlike joining you both وَالنَّدُّand the equal أَوْلَىbetter suited بِهِto him النَّدُّthe equal
كَجَمْعِكُمَا وَالنَّدُّ أَوْلَى بِهِ النَّدُّ
And never once has God brought two equals together
Never once has God united two peers,
As He has brought you two together; an equal is best suited to an equal.
As He has united you - and rivalry befits the peer.
تَضَاهَيْتُمَاyou both matched each other قَدْراًin standing وَحُسْناًand in beauty وَشِيْمَةًand in character
تَضَاهَيْتُمَا قَدْراً وَحُسْناً وَشِيْمَةً
كَمَاjust as يَتَضَاهَىis alike فِيin تَقَابُلِهِits face-to-face arrangement الْوَرْدُthe roses
كَمَا يَتَضَاهَى فِي تَقَابُلِهِ الْوَرْدُ
You two match in standing, beauty, and character,
You are matched in worth, beauty and character,
Just as roses are alike when facing one another.
As two roses match, when face to face.
أَعَزُّmost esteemed أَعِزَّاءِesteemed men الحِمَىthe homeland أَبَواكُمَاyour two fathers
أَعَزُّ أَعِزَّاءِ الحِمَى أَبَواكُمَا
وَأَسْطَعُand most radiant جَدٍّgrandfather فِيin العُلَىthe heights of honor لَكُمَاfor you both جَدa grandfather
وَأَسْطَعُ جَدٍّ فِي العُلَى لَكُمَا جَد
Your two fathers are the most esteemed of the homeland's esteemed men.
The proudest of the protected clan, your fathers,
And you both have the most radiant grandfather in the heights of honor.
And the brightest ancestor on high for you, your grandfather.
