إِنَّindeed الَّتِيshe who تَجَلَتْmanifested herself (apparently intended: bore) عَلِيّاًAli أَنْجَبَتْbrought forth
إِنَّ الَّتِي تَجَلَتْ عَلِيّاً أَنْجَبَتْ
لِلْعِلْمِfor knowledge أَنْفَسَthe most precious دُرَّةٍpearl فِيin عِقْدِهِits necklace
لِلْعِلْمِ أَنْفَسَ دُرَّةٍ فِي عِقْدِهِ
Indeed, she who bore Ali brought forth
She who revealed herself to Ali begot
for knowledge the most precious pearl in its necklace.
For knowledge the finest pearls in its necklace
قَدْindeed نَشَّأَتْهُshe raised him عَلَىin الفَضَائِلِthe virtues وَالعُلَىand eminence
قَدْ نَشَّأَتْهُ عَلَى الفَضَائِلِ وَالعُلَى
فَبِحَمْدِهَاso in praise of her نَطَقَspoke المُشِيدُthe one extolling بِحَمْدِهِin praise of him
فَبِحَمْدِهَا نَطَقَ المُشِيدُ بِحَمْدِهِ
She raised him in virtue and excellence,
She raised him in virtues and nobility
so whoever extolled him spoke her praise.
So through her praise the eulogizer praises him
لاno بِدْعَwonder إِنْif عَمَّspread throughout الأَسَىsorrow فِيat her loss فَقْدِهَاline_6
لا بِدْعَ إِنْ عَمَّ الأَسَى فِي فَقْدِهَا
وَطَناًa homeland يَفِيremains faithful لِلْمُحْسِنِينَto benefactors كَعَهْدِهِas is its custom
وَطَناً يَفِي لِلْمُحْسِنِينَ كَعَهْدِهِ
No wonder if sorrow at her loss swept through
There is no innovation if grief spreads in her absence
a homeland faithful to its benefactors, as ever.
A homeland fulfilling for the benevolent as was its wont
فَمَشَىso walked وَرَاءَbehind النَّعْشِthe bier فِيin تَشْيِيعِهَاher funeral procession
فَمَشَى وَرَاءَ النَّعْشِ فِي تَشْيِيعِهَا
كُبَرَاءُthe foremost قَادَتِهِof its leaders وَنُخْبَةُand the elite جُنْدِهِof its troops
كُبَرَاءُ قَادَتِهِ وَنُخْبَةُ جُنْدِهِ
So behind the bier in her funeral procession walked
So he walked behind the bier in her funeral procession
the foremost of its leaders and the elite of its troops.
The elite leaders and choice soldiers of his troops
أَعْطَتْهُshe gave it مِنْfrom دَمِهَاher blood وَدَمْعِand the tears of عُيُونِهَاher eyes
أَعْطَتْهُ مِنْ دَمِهَا وَدَمْعِ عُيُونِهَا
أَنْقَىthe purest مَفَاخِرِهِof its glories وَأَنْبَغَand the most gifted وُلْدِهِof its children
أَنْقَى مَفَاخِرِهِ وَأَنْبَغَ وُلْدِهِ
From her blood and the tears of her eyes she gave it
She gave him from her blood and tears of her eyes
its purest glory and its most gifted son.
The purest pride of his glories and most distinguished son
وَبَنَتْand she built لَهُfor it بِعَنَائِهَاthrough her toil وَسُهَادِهَاand her sleeplessness
وَبَنَتْ لَهُ بِعَنَائِهَا وَسُهَادِهَا
تِلْكَthat الدَّعَامَةَpillar مِنْamong دَعَائِمِthe pillars of مَجْدِهِits glory
تِلْكَ الدَّعَامَةَ مِنْ دَعَائِمِ مَجْدِهِ
And through her toil and sleeplessness she built for it
And built for him with her care and pillows
that pillar among the pillars of its glory.
That pillar among the pillars of his glory
أَعَلِيُّO Ali هَلْquestion marker تَلْفَىyou are found لِعَجْزِكَat your helplessness جَازِعاًdistraught
أَعَلِيُّ هَلْ تَلْفَى لِعَجْزِكَ جَازِعاً
وَالطُّبُّwhile medicine قَدْindeed أَعْطَاكَhas given you مَاwhat فِيwithin حَدِّهِits limits
وَالطُّبُّ قَدْ أَعْطَاكَ مَا فِي حَدِّهِ
O Ali, are you distraught at your helplessness,
O Exalted One, will you collapse in despair
when medicine has given you all within its limits?
When medicine has given you what was in its limit
إِنْif لَمْdid not يَفِدْهَاbenefit her الطُّبُّmedicine إِلاَّexcept جَهْدُهُits effort
إِنْ لَمْ يَفِدْهَا الطُّبُّ إِلاَّ جَهْدُهُ
مَاذَاwhat عَلَيْكَis upon you وَتِلْكَand that غَايَةُthe utmost extent of جُهْدِهِits effort
مَاذَا عَلَيْكَ وَتِلْكَ غَايَةُ جُهْدِهِ
If medicine offered her nothing but its effort,
If medicine does not avail her except its effort
what blame is yours, when that is its utmost endeavor?
What is upon you, and that is the extent of its effort
الأَمْرُthe decree أَمْرُthe decree of اللهِGod إِنْif يَعْجِلْHe hastens وَإِنْand if
الأَمْرُ أَمْرُ اللهِ إِنْ يَعْجِلْ وَإِنْ
يَمْهِلْHe grants respite وَمَاand not تَعْدُوهُoversteps it حِيلَةُthe stratagem عَبْدِهِof His servant
يَمْهِلْ وَمَا تَعْدُوهُ حِيلَةُ عَبْدِهِ
The decree is God's, whether He hastens or
The matter is God's affair, whether He hastens or
grants respite; no stratagem of His servant can overrule it.
Delays, and no scheme of His servant exceeds Him
أَمَاhave you not? جُرِحْتَbeen wounded بِحَيْثُwhere لاnot تَأْسُوheals يَدٌa hand
أَمَا جُرِحْتَ بِحَيْثُ لا تَأْسُو يَدٌ
فَجِرَاحُso the wounds of نَفْسِكَyour soul بِرْؤُهَاtheir healing مِنْfrom عِنْدِهِHis presence
فَجِرَاحُ نَفْسِكَ بِرْؤُهَا مِنْ عِنْدِهِ
Have you not been wounded where no hand can heal?
Have you not been hurt such that no hand can heal
Then the healing of your soul's wounds comes from Him.
So the wounds of your soul by seeing her are from Him
حَسْبَenough for الفَقيدَةِthe departed woman أَنْthat تُلاقِيshe meets رَبَّهَاher Lord
حَسْبَ الفَقيدَةِ أَنْ تُلاقِي رَبَّهَا
وَتُثَابُand she is rewarded خَيْراًwith good فِيin النَّعِيمِbliss وَخُلْدِهِand its eternity
وَتُثَابُ خَيْراً فِي النَّعِيمِ وَخُلْدِهِ
It is enough for the departed to meet her Lord
It suffices the deceased to meet her Lord
and receive a good reward in everlasting bliss.
And be rewarded with good in bliss and eternity
Sol 6.1
