إِنِّيindeed I أَبَاهِيI boast before سُرَاةَthe nobles of الشَّرْقِthe East أَجْمَعَهُمْall of them
بِخَيْرِهِمْof the best of them فِيin مَقَامَاتِthe stations of العُلَىeminence رَجُلاَa man
Indeed, I boast before all the nobles of the East
I boast to the horsemen of the East altogether
Of a man, their finest in the stations of eminence,
Of their best man in the abodes of the exalted, a man
بِمَنْof one whom أُسَمِّيI call أَمِيراًa prince والأَمِيرُand the prince بِهِby it
أَعْنِيI mean سُمُواًloftiness بِأَخْلاَقٍthrough morals زَكَتْwere pure وَحِلَىand graces
Of one I call a prince—and by 'prince'
Whom I name a prince, and the prince is named after him
I mean loftiness through pure character and graces.
I mean, of noble character and refined disposition
جَلاَhe dispelled قَتَاماًgloom عَنِfrom الدُّنْيَاthe world بِطَلْعَتِهِwith his countenance
وَأَيْنَand where مِنْهَاcompared with it ازِدهَاراًin radiance طَلْعَةُthe countenance of ابْنُson of جَلاَJala
He dispelled gloom from the world with his countenance;
He rose above the world with his ascent
And where is Ibn Jala's countenance beside it in radiance?
And how far from it in flourishing is the ascent of the son of Jalaa
محَصْتُI thoroughly tested خَبَراًthrough experience بَنِيthe sons of دَهْرِيmy age فَلَمْyet did not أَرَI see فِيamong

I thoroughly tested the men of my age through experience, yet did not find among
I examined the news of the people of my time but did not see among
The most intelligent and most resolute men an equal to him.
The most intelligent of men and the most decisive of them a parallel to him
