In the favor of the creature and the Lord,

rest content, O father of medicine.

O long-standing head of the Palace,

and of the age's physicians in generations to come,

immense is the loss of the entire country

    in you—a great scholar and a pillar;

a man of sound, firmly settled judgment,

    precise in affirmation and denial;

a man of genuine, truthful glory,

    when glory is bought with lies;

a man of far-reaching purpose, devoted,

when unity fractured, to mending it.

He did not halt in bewilderment

    between thought's thrust and pull.

still at the very beginning of the road,

and her contentment with peace was most akin,

    in its aftermath, to war,

he rose in earnest to restore

the stature she had lost through frivolity.

And for his efforts to support her,

he was counted among her mighty champions.

A traveler in the way of God,

he tore away the dark veils that shrouded him.

His lifetime and wealth had both been given

as a devout offering in the people's service.

Egypt, when his death was announced to her,

was struck dumb by the calamity's severity.

And those there who had lost him held

his worth beyond the pouring of tears.

in the heavens, for a fallen shooting star?

His due is remembrance that immortalizes him

    through noble speech, not wailing,

    and meanings through which endures

the face of a living man whose allotted span has ended.

who has children beyond all reckoning?

Whoever nurtures such worthy men as

    these chosen, noble souls—

    linking age to age:

    Isa was, in his affection,

the same whether far or near.

    خُلْقُهُ مِنْ جَوْهَرٍ صُلْبِ

    His resolve was of supple substance;

    his character, of solid essence.

was pleasant as a sweet-water spring.

Tell them and repeat them, O bearer of news.

The wealth in which one takes pride

has its treasure in the mind, not the soil.

you accomplished, with admiration and pride.

The best that intelligence brings forth

is what comes from the heart.

my time grew long, it would not suffice me.

So may the gardens be his pasture,

forever within them, in spacious ease.
