    Gone is he whose salon and assembly

    Were a necklace strung with noble men.

    Whenever he spoke, every limb listened

    To him; neither fatigue nor boredom turned it away.

    فَالْقَلْبُ مُبْتَهِجٌ وَالْعَقْلُ مُغْتَنِمُ

    Pearls he strung together in whatever he uttered;

    So the heart rejoiced, and the mind profited.

    As though his companions, however high their ranks,

    Were seekers of gifts, upon whom blessings were lavished.
