يَاO صَلاَحَSalah الأَسِيرِal-Asir سِرْgo forth وَاسْبُقِand outpace العَصْرَthe age
يَا صَلاَحَ الأَسِيرِ سِرْ وَاسْبُقِ العَصْرَ
بِوَحْيٍwith inspiration مِنَfrom القُيُودِthe fetters طَلِيقِfree
بِوَحْيٍ مِنَ القُيُودِ طَلِيقِ
O Salah al-Asir, go forth and outpace the age,
With inspiration free of fetters,
فِيin ظِلاَلِthe shade الخَمَائِلِthe groves الخُضْرِgreen وَالصَّحرَاءُand the desert
فِي ظِلاَلِ الخَمَائِلِ الخُضْرِ وَالصَّحرَاءُ
مِنْfrom حَوْلِهِaround it نِطَاقُa girdle حَريقِfire
مِنْ حَوْلِهِ نِطَاقُ حَريقِ
In the shade of green groves, while the desert
Around it is a girdle of fire.
أَيَّwhat حُسْنٍbeauty جَلَوْتَهُyou unveiled it لِنَدَامَاكَto your drinking companions
أَيَّ حُسْنٍ جَلَوْتَهُ لِنَدَامَاكَ
وَمَاذَاand what سَقَيْتَهُمْyou gave them to drink مِنْof رَحيقِnectar
وَمَاذَا سَقَيْتَهُمْ مِنْ رَحيقِ
What beauty you have unveiled to your drinking companions,
And what nectar you have given them to drink!
سِرُّthe secret هَذَاthis المَزَاجِthe blend وَهْوَand it is جَدِيدٌnew
سِرُّ هَذَا المَزَاجِ وَهْوَ جَدِيدٌ
إِنَّindeed فِيهِin it لِلشَّرْبِfor drinkers طِيبُthe savor العَتيِقِaged wine
إِنَّ فِيهِ لِلشَّرْبِ طِيبُ العَتيِقِ
The secret of this blend, though it is new,
Is that, for drinkers, it has the savor of aged wine.
فَتَقَبَّلso accept شُكْرَthanks المُحِبِّthe admirer لِمَاfor what أَهْدَيْتَyou gave as a gift
فَتَقَبَّل شُكْرَ المُحِبِّ لِمَا أَهْدَيْتَ
مِنْof دُرِّكَyour pearls النَّظيمِstrung الأَنِيقِelegant
مِنْ دُرِّكَ النَّظيمِ الأَنِيقِ
So accept your admirer's thanks for what you have given
Of your elegantly strung pearls.
