زَيْدَانُZaydan قَدْindeed آنَسْتَنِيyou have comforted me مِنْfrom وَحْشَةٍloneliness
زَيْدَانُ قَدْ آنَسْتَنِي مِنْ وَحْشَةٍ
مَاhow كَانَwas أَشْوَقَنِيI longed so deeply إِلَىfor زَيْدَانِZaydan
مَا كَانَ أَشْوَقَنِي إِلَى زَيْدَانِ
Zaydan, you have truly eased my loneliness;

وَإِلَىand for السُّوَيْعَاتُthe brief hours الَّتِيwhich ذُقْنَاwe tasted بِهَاduring them
وَإِلَى السُّوَيْعَاتُ الَّتِي ذُقْنَا بِهَا
طِيبَsweetness الحَيَاةِof life وَنَحْنُwhile we فِيin لُبْنَانِLebanon
طِيبَ الحَيَاةِ وَنَحْنُ فِي لُبْنَانِ
and for those precious little hours in which we tasted
And for those brief hours in which we tasted
the sweetness of life while we were in Lebanon.

تَشْدُوyou sing فَتُطْرِبُand so you delight مَجْلِساًan assembly لأُولِيfor those possessing النُّهَىunderstanding
تَشْدُو فَتُطْرِبُ مَجْلِساً لأُولِي النُّهَى
جَمَعَgathered العُلَىgreatness فِيin مُلْتَقَىa meeting إِخْوَانِof brothers
جَمَعَ العُلَى فِي مُلْتَقَى إِخْوَانِ
You sing, delighting an assembly of discerning minds,
You sing, delighting an assembly of the wise,
brought together by al-ʿAlawi at a gathering of brethren.
That gathered greatness in a meeting of brothers.
