يَاO حافِلِينَcelebrating بِعِيدٍat a feast فِيهِin it تَذْكِرَةٌa remembrance
يَا حافِلِينَ بِعِيدٍ فِيهِ تَذْكِرَةٌ
وَعِبْرَةٌand a lesson حَبَّذاhow splendid النَّيرُوزُNayruz مِنْas a عِيدِfeast
وَعِبْرَةٌ حَبَّذا النَّيرُوزُ مِنْ عِيدِ
O you gathered for a feast that holds a remembrance,
O you who celebrate a feast that holds remembrance,
and a lesson—what a splendid feast Nayrouz is!
And a lesson—how splendid a feast is Nayruz!
تَعَلَّمُواlearn أَنَّthat قَوْمَاًa people بِالتُّقىto piety اعْتَصَمُواthey held fast
تَعَلَّمُوا أَنَّ قَوْمَاً بِالتُّقى اعْتَصَمُوا
لَهُمْfor them مِنَfrom اللهِGod أَجْرٌa reward غَيْرُnot مَجْحُودِdenied
لَهُمْ مِنَ اللهِ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَجْحُودِ
Learn that a people who held fast to piety
Learn that a people who held fast to piety
have with God a reward that shall not be denied.
Have a reward from God that cannot be denied.
نَاجُونَsaved مَهْمَاwhatever يُسَامُواthey are made to suffer دُونَin defense of مَاwhat اعْتَقَدُواthey believed
نَاجُونَ مَهْمَا يُسَامُوا دُونَ مَا اعْتَقَدُوا
مِنْof اضْطِهادٍpersecution وَمِنْand of ذُلٍّhumiliation وَتَشْرِيدِand exile
مِنْ اضْطِهادٍ وَمِنْ ذُلٍّ وَتَشْرِيدِ
They are saved, however much they suffer for what they believe,
They are saved, whatever they are made to suffer for their beliefs:
from persecution, humiliation, and banishment.
Persecution, humiliation, and exile.
آبَاؤُكُمْyour forefathers أَثْبَتَواthey proved لِلْخَلْقِto all creation أَنَّهمْthat they
آبَاؤُكُمْ أَثْبَتَوا لِلْخَلْقِ أَنَّهمْ
أَبْلَواthey acquitted themselves بَلاءَwith the valor of الأَعِزَّاءِthe noble الصَّنادِيدِthe champions
أَبْلَوا بَلاءَ الأَعِزَّاءِ الصَّنادِيدِ
Your forefathers proved to all mankind that they
Your forefathers proved to all creation that they
showed the mettle of mighty, indomitable heroes.
Acquitted themselves with the valor of noble champions.
وَأَوْرَثُوْكُمْand they bequeathed you فَخَاراًpride بِانْتِسًابِكُمْin your descent
وَأَوْرَثُوْكُمْ فَخَاراً بِانْتِسًابِكُمْ
إِلىto أُولَئِكُمْthose (addressing you all) الغُرِّthe illustrious الأَماجِيدِthe glorious
إِلى أُولَئِكُمْ الغُرِّ الأَماجِيدِ
They bequeathed you pride in your descent
And bequeathed you pride in your descent
from those radiant, illustrious ones.
From those illustrious, glorious men.
قَالَواthey said وَمَصْدَاقُand the proof of ماwhat قَالَواthey said فَعَائِلُهُمْtheir deeds لاشَno; start of 'standing'
قَالَوا وَمَصْدَاقُ ما قَالَوا فَعَائِلُهُمْ لاشَ
أنَstanding (word continuation) فِيin العَيْشِlife لِلْضُعْفَىfor the weak الرَّعَادِيدِthe craven
أنَ فِي العَيْشِ لِلْضُعْفَى الرَّعَادِيدِ
They spoke—and their deeds bear out what they said: there is no...
They said—and their deeds bear out their words—there is no
...place in life for weakling cowards.
Standing in life for the weak and craven.
فآيَةُso the sign of الشُّكرِgratitude أَنْto تُوْفُواyou fulfill حُقُوقَهُمْtheir rights
فآيَةُ الشُّكرِ أَنْ تُوْفُوا حُقُوقَهُمْ
عَلَىincumbent on بَنِيهِمْtheir sons بِتَبْجِيلٍwith reverence وَتَمْجِيدِand honor
عَلَى بَنِيهِمْ بِتَبْجِيلٍ وَتَمْجِيدِ
The mark of gratitude is that you discharge their claims
So the sign of gratitude is to give them their due
upon you, their sons—with reverence and glorification—
From their sons, with reverence and honor,
وَأَنْand to تَرَوْهُمْyou show them عَلَىthrough الأَيَّامِthe days إِنَّكمُindeed you
وَأَنْ تَرَوْهُمْ عَلَى الأَيَّامِ إِنَّكمُ
بِالبِرِّthrough good deeds خلَّدْتُمُوهُمْyou immortalized them خَيْرَthe best تَخْلِيدِimmortalization
بِالبِرِّ خلَّدْتُمُوهُمْ خَيْرَ تَخْلِيدِ
and that throughout the days you show them that you
And to show them, as the days pass, that you indeed
through filial devotion have immortalized them most nobly.
Have immortalized them through good deeds in the finest way.
لِلْبَطْرِيرَكِfor the Patriarch أَبِيfather of الأَحْبَارِthe prelates طَلْعَتُهُhis countenance
لِلْبَطْرِيرَكِ أَبِي الأَحْبَارِ طَلْعَتُهُ
فِيin كُلِّevery يَوْمٍday بِهَذِيin this الدّارِthe house مَشْهُودِwitnessed
فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ بِهَذِي الدّارِ مَشْهُودِ

is seen each day within this house.
Is seen every day in this house.
يَبْدُوhe appears وَجَمعيَّةand the Society of التُّوْفِيقِal-Tawfiq بَاسِطَةٌdisplaying
يَبْدُو وَجَمعيَّة التُّوْفِيقِ بَاسِطَةٌ
لَدَيْهِbefore him آيَاتِsigns of تَحْسِينٍimprovement وَتَجْدِيدِand renewal
لَدَيْهِ آيَاتِ تَحْسِينٍ وَتَجْدِيدِ
He appears, while the Tawfiq Society spreads
He appears, while the al-Tawfiq Society displays
before him signs of improvement and renewal.
Before him signs of improvement and renewal.
بِيُمْنِهِthrough his blessing تُدْرَكُare attained الأَوْطَارُthe aims سَاعِيةًstriving
بِيُمْنِهِ تُدْرَكُ الأَوْطَارُ سَاعِيةً
لَهَاfor them بِأَبْرِعِwith the most skillful تَقْرِيبٍfacilitation وَتَمْهِيدِand preparation
لَهَا بِأَبْرِعِ تَقْرِيبٍ وَتَمْهِيدِ
Through his blessing, it strives and attains its aims
Through his blessing, aims are attained as it strives
with consummate facilitation and preparation.
For them with the most skillful facilitation and preparation.
رَئِيسُهَاits president قُدْوةٌan example لِلْنَّاسِto the people صَالِحَةٌworthy
رَئِيسُهَا قُدْوةٌ لِلْنَّاسِ صَالِحَةٌ
بِالحَزْمِin decisiveness وَالعَزْمِand resolve وَالإِقْدَامِand boldness وَالجُودِand generosity
بِالحَزْمِ وَالعَزْمِ وَالإِقْدَامِ وَالجُودِ
Its president is a virtuous exemplar to the people
Its president is a worthy example to the people
in resolve, determination, boldness, and generosity.
In decisiveness, resolve, boldness, and generosity.
وَصَحْبُهُand his companions وَمُعِينُوهُand his helpers الكِرَامُthe noble بَنَواthey built
وَصَحْبُهُ وَمُعِينُوهُ الكِرَامُ بَنَوا
لِلْعِلْمِfor learning أَخْلَقَthe most fitting بُنْيَانٍedifice بِتوْطِيدِwith firm foundations
لِلْعِلْمِ أَخْلَقَ بُنْيَانٍ بِتوْطِيدِ
His companions and noble helpers have built
And his companions and his noble helpers have built
for learning the worthiest edifice, firmly founded—
For learning a most fitting edifice, firmly founded:
صَرْحٌa lofty edifice يُعَدُّis reckoned لِمِصْرَfor Egypt خَيْرُthe finest نَابِتَةٍyoung growth
صَرْحٌ يُعَدُّ لِمِصْرَ خَيْرُ نَابِتَةٍ
تُؤْتَىis bestowed الْجَنَىthe fruit الْعَذْبَthe sweet مِنْfrom نُضْرِverdant الأَمَاليدِthe tender shoots
تُؤْتَى الْجَنَى الْعَذْبَ مِنْ نُضْرِ الأَمَاليدِ
an edifice counted among Egypt’s finest growth,
An edifice deemed Egypt's finest young growth,
yielding sweet fruit from verdant shoots.
From whose verdant, tender shoots sweet fruit is bestowed.
فَبارَكَso may ... bless اللهُGod فِيin رَاعِيthe keeper of الغِرَاسِthe saplings وَفِيand in
فَبارَكَ اللهُ فِي رَاعِي الغِرَاسِ وَفِي
تِلْكَthose الغِرَاسِthe saplings لِدَهْرٍfor an age غَيْرِnot مَحْدُودِlimited
تِلْكَ الغِرَاسِ لِدَهْرٍ غَيْرِ مَحْدُودِ
May God bless the keeper of these plantings, and
So may God bless the keeper of the saplings, and
those plantings, for an age without end.
Those saplings, for an age without end.
وَلْيَحْيَاand may ... live فَارُوقُFarouk وَادِيthe Valley of النِّيلِthe Nile مُرْتَقِياًascending
وَلْيَحْيَا فَارُوقُ وَادِي النِّيلِ مُرْتَقِياً
إِلىto ذُرَىthe heights of الْمَجْدِglory فِيin عِزٍّhonor وتَأْيِيدِand support
إِلى ذُرَى الْمَجْدِ فِي عِزٍّ وتَأْيِيدِ
And long live Farouk of the Nile Valley, ever ascending
And long live Farouk of the Nile Valley, ascending
to the summits of glory, in might and support.
To the heights of glory, with honor and support!
