فَارُوقُFarouk إِنَّكَindeed you are ذُخْرُtreasure of الأُمَّةِthe nation الغَالِيprecious
فَارُوقُ إِنَّكَ ذُخْرُ الأُمَّةِ الغَالِي
عِشْlive مَاas long as تَشَاءُdesire المُنَىhopes وَاسْلَمْand remain safe لأَجْيَالِfor generations
عِشْ مَا تَشَاءُ المُنَى وَاسْلَمْ لأَجْيَالِ
Farouk, you are indeed the nation's precious treasure.
Live as long as hopes desire, and remain safe for generations.
أَوْسَعْتَyou have enriched مِلْكَكَyour realm تَعْزِيزاًstrengthening وَمَكْرُمَةًand generosity
أَوْسَعْتَ مِلْكَكَ تَعْزِيزاً وَمَكْرُمَةً
بَيْنَamid الفِدَىsacrifice وَالنَّدَىand generosity بِالبَأْسِwith valor وَالنَّالِand bounty
بَيْنَ الفِدَى وَالنَّدَى بِالبَأْسِ وَالنَّالِ
You have enriched your realm with strength and generosity,
Amid sacrifice and largesse, with valor and bounty.
شَتَّىvarious الفِئَاتِthe groups بِكَin you اعْتَزْتْhave taken pride وَأَسْعَدَهَاand gladdened them
شَتَّى الفِئَاتِ بِكَ اعْتَزْتْ وَأَسْعَدَهَا
مَاwhat خَصَّهَاfavored them بِحَنَانِwith the tenderness of رَأْيكِyour judgment العَاليlofty
مَا خَصَّهَا بِحَنَانِ رَأْيكِ العَالي
The various groups have taken pride in you, and been gladdened
By the tenderness your lofty judgment has reserved for them.
هِيَshe الَّتِيthe one who شِئْتَyou wished أَنْthat تَرْعَىyou foster مَبَرَّتَهاher charity
هِيَ الَّتِي شِئْتَ أَنْ تَرْعَى مَبَرَّتَها
وَأَنْand that تُصَانَbe safeguarded وَتَحْيَاand flourish بِاسْمِin the name of فَرْيَالِFerial
وَأَنْ تُصَانَ وَتَحْيَا بِاسْمِ فَرْيَالِ
Hers is the charity you wished to foster,
And to see safeguarded and flourishing in Ferial's name.
أعْجَبْmarvel بِهَاat her طِفْلَةٌa little girl مِنْfrom يَوْمِthe day of مَوْلِدِهَاher birth
أعْجَبْ بِهَا طِفْلَةٌ مِنْ يَوْمِ مَوْلِدِهَا
تَرْعَىcares for الضِّعَافَthe weak وَتَغْدُوand becomes أُمَّa mother to أَطْفالِchildren
تَرْعَى الضِّعَافَ وَتَغْدُو أُمَّ أَطْفالِ
Marvel at her—a child who, from the day of her birth,
Tends the weak and becomes a mother to children.
فَطِيمَةa weaned girl الأمْسِyesterday فِيamong أَشْيَاخِthe elders of أُمَّتَهاher nation
فَطِيمَة الأمْسِ فِي أَشْيَاخِ أُمَّتَها
لَهَاshe has رَوَائِعُmarvels of أَحْكَامٍjudgments وَأَمْثَالِand proverbs
لَهَا رَوَائِعُ أَحْكَامٍ وَأَمْثَالِ
Yesterday's weanling, among the elders of her nation,
She has wondrous judgments and proverbs.
مَاذَاwhat تُعَلِّمُهُمْshe teaches them هَذِيthis الصَّغِيرةlittle girl مِنْof
مَاذَا تُعَلِّمُهُمْ هَذِي الصَّغِيرة مِنْ
فَرَائِضَduties تُصْلِحُset right الدُّنْيَاthe world وَأَنْفَالِand voluntary offerings
فَرَائِضَ تُصْلِحُ الدُّنْيَا وَأَنْفَالِ
What does this little girl teach them about
Duties that set the world right, and voluntary offerings?
مَنْwho فِيamong الشعُوبِthe nations كَفَارُوقَlike Farouk وَأُسْرَتِهِand his family
مَنْ فِي الشعُوبِ كَفَارُوقَ وَأُسْرَتِهِ
لِيَرْفَعَto raise الشَّعْبِthe people مِنْfrom حَالٍone condition إِلىto حَالِanother condition
لِيَرْفَعَ الشَّعْبِ مِنْ حَالٍ إِلى حَالِ
Who among the nations is like Farouk and his family,
To raise the people from one condition to another?
مَعَاهِدُinstitutions of البِرِّcharity مَاhow أَبْهَىsplendid مَجَالِيَهَاtheir appearances
مَعَاهِدُ البِرِّ مَا أَبْهَى مَجَالِيَهَا
وَوَجْهُand the face of طِفْلَتِهِhis little daughter الأُولَىfirstborn لَهَاfor them جَالِlending radiance
وَوَجْهُ طِفْلَتِهِ الأُولَى لَهَا جَالِ
Charitable institutions—how splendid they appear,
With his firstborn daughter's face lending them radiance.
هَذِيthis العِنَايَةُcare مِنْfrom فَارُوقَFarouk مَأْثَرَةٌa noble deed
هَذِي العِنَايَةُ مِنْ فَارُوقَ مَأْثَرَةٌ
فِيهَاin it البَدِيعَانِthe two marvels مِنْof لُطْفٍkindness وَإِجْمَالِand graciousness
فِيهَا البَدِيعَانِ مِنْ لُطْفٍ وَإِجْمَالِ
This care from Farouk is a noble deed,
Containing the twin beauties of kindness and graciousness.
قَدْindeed كُوفِيءَhave been rewarded المُحْسِنُونَthe benefactors الأكْرَمُونَmost generous بِهَاthrough it
قَدْ كُوفِيءَ المُحْسِنُونَ الأكْرَمُونَ بِهَا
عَنْfor كُلِّevery مِثْلٍmeasure مِنْof الجَّدَوىbounty بِأمْثَالِwith many times as much
عَنْ كُلِّ مِثْلٍ مِنْ الجَّدَوى بِأمْثَالِ
Through it the most generous benefactors have been rewarded,
For each measure of bounty, many times over.
وَضُوعِفَتْand was doubled حُظْوَةُthe favor of المَكْفُولِthe cared-for أَمْرِهُمُtheir welfare
وَضُوعِفَتْ حُظْوَةُ المَكْفُولِ أَمْرِهُمُ
مِنْamong لاَئِذِينَthose seeking refuge وَمِنْand among مَرْضَىthe sick وسؤَّالِand beggars
مِنْ لاَئِذِينَ وَمِنْ مَرْضَى وسؤَّالِ
And the favor shown to those under care has been doubled:
Those seeking refuge, the sick, and beggars.
شُكْراًthanks لِرَبَّاتِto the ladies of إِحْسَانٍcharity أَجِبْنَthey answered وَقَدْand already
شُكْراً لِرَبَّاتِ إِحْسَانٍ أَجِبْنَ وَقَدْ
دَعَاcalled الهُدَيguidance لِلنَّدَىfor generosity مِنْwith غَيْرِno إِمْهَالِdelay
دَعَا الهُدَي لِلنَّدَى مِنْ غَيْرِ إِمْهَالِ
Thanks to the ladies of charity, who answered when
Guidance called for generosity, without delay.
يَطْلُبْنَthey seek فِيمَاin what تَوَخَّيْنَthey undertake الكَمَالَperfection وَمَاand do not
يَطْلُبْنَ فِيمَا تَوَخَّيْنَ الكَمَالَ وَمَا
يَبْدَأْنthey begin مَأْثَرَةًa noble deed إِلاَّexcept لاِكْمَالِfor completion
يَبْدَأْن مَأْثَرَةً إِلاَّ لاِكْمَالِ
They seek perfection in what they undertake, and do not
Begin a noble deed except to complete it.
شُكْراًthanks لَكُمْto you يَاO سُرَاةٌnotables لاَnot نُعَدِّدُهُمْwe enumerate them
شُكْراً لَكُمْ يَا سُرَاةٌ لاَ نُعَدِّدُهُمْ
فَإِنَّfor indeed أَسْمَاءَهُمْtheir names لَيْسَتْare not بِإغْفَالِoverlooked
فَإِنَّ أَسْمَاءَهُمْ لَيْسَتْ بِإغْفَالِ
Thanks to you, O notables, whom we do not list by name,
For their names are not overlooked.
أَمْجَادِillustrious men of مِصْرَEgypt وَأَجْوَادُand generous men among الأجَانِبِforeigners مِنْamong
أَمْجَادِ مِصْرَ وَأَجْوَادُ الأجَانِبِ مِنْ
بُنَاةِbuilders of جَاهٍprestige وَمِنْand among أَرْبَابِowners of أَعْمَالِbusinesses
بُنَاةِ جَاهٍ وَمِنْ أَرْبَابِ أَعْمَالِ
Egypt's illustrious men and generous foreigners, from among
Builders of prestige and men of business.
مِصْرُEgypt الجَدِيدَةُnew فِيin بِشْرٍgladness وَفِيand in جَذَلٍjoy
مِصْرُ الجَدِيدَةُ فِي بِشْرٍ وَفِي جَذَلٍ
بِمَاbecause of what لَهَاshe has مِنْof مُنىًwishes تُقْضَىare fulfilled وَآمَالِand hopes
بِمَا لَهَا مِنْ مُنىً تُقْضَى وَآمَالِ
New Egypt is full of gladness and joy,
At the wishes and hopes fulfilled for her.
شُكْراًthanks لَمَاfor what قَمْتَyou have done يَاO عَبْدَAbd العَزِيزِal-Aziz بِهِwith it
شُكْراً لَمَا قَمْتَ يَا عَبْدَ العَزِيزِ بِهِ
وَهَلْand can تُكَافَأُbe repaid أَفْعَالٌdeeds بِأقْوَالِwith words
وَهَلْ تُكَافَأُ أَفْعَالٌ بِأقْوَالِ
Thanks for what you have done, O Abd al-Aziz,
And can deeds be repaid with words?
بِطَلْعَتَafter Talaat تَأْتَسِيyou model yourself فِيمَاin what تَجُودُyou are generous بِهِwith it
بِطَلْعَتَ تَأْتَسِي فِيمَا تَجُودُ بِهِ
لِيَخْلَدِso that it may endure الذَّكْرُremembrance مَقْرُوناًjoined بِإِجْلاَلِwith reverence
لِيَخْلَدِ الذَّكْرُ مَقْرُوناً بِإِجْلاَلِ
You follow Talaat's example in what you generously give,
So that remembrance may endure, joined with reverence.
شُكْراًthanks لِكُلِّto every سَخِيٍّgenerous person نَافِعٍbenefiting وَطَناa homeland
شُكْراً لِكُلِّ سَخِيٍّ نَافِعٍ وَطَنا
بِالرَّأْيِwith counsel وَالسَّعْيِand effort أَوْor بِالجْاهِwith influence وَالمَالِand wealth
بِالرَّأْيِ وَالسَّعْيِ أَوْ بِالجْاهِ وَالمَالِ
Thanks to every generous person who serves the homeland,
With counsel and effort, or with influence and wealth.
أَرَادَتِwanted الدَّارُthe institution مُنًىfrom me (contextual reading) صَوْغَthe fashioning of مَحْمَدَةٍpraise
أَرَادَتِ الدَّارُ مُنًى صَوْغَ مَحْمَدَةٍ
تُهْدَىto be offered إِلىto كُلِّevery مَسْمَاحٍgenerous giver وَمِفْضَالِand benefactor
تُهْدَى إِلى كُلِّ مَسْمَاحٍ وَمِفْضَالِ
The institution asked me to fashion a tribute,
To be offered to every generous giver and benefactor.
فَلَمْso not يَكُنْthere was فَضْلٌmerit فِيin إِجَابَتِهَاanswering its request
فَلَمْ يَكُنْ فَضْلٌ فِي إِجَابَتِهَا
وَالدُّرُّand the pearls مِنْكُمْfrom you وَمِنِّيand from me صَوْغُthe setting of لأْ“pearls” (first fragment) آلِ“pearls” (remaining fragment)
وَالدُّرُّ مِنْكُمْ وَمِنِّي صَوْغُ لأْ آلِ
So there was no merit in answering its request:
And the pearls are yours; their setting is mine.
لِيَحْيَاlong live فَارُوقُFarouk وَالإِقْبَالُand good fortune مُتَّصِلٌunceasing
لِيَحْيَا فَارُوقُ وَالإِقْبَالُ مُتَّصِلٌ
وَشَعْبُand the people of مِصْرَEgypt عَزِيزٌhonored نَاعِمُat ease in البَالِmind
وَشَعْبُ مِصْرَ عَزِيزٌ نَاعِمُ البَالِ
Long live Farouk, with good fortune unceasing,
And Egypt's people, honored and at ease.
