صَفَحَاتٌpages مِدَادُهَاtheir ink مِنْfrom وَلاَءٍloyalty
صَفَحَاتٌ مِدَادُهَا مِنْ وَلاَءٍ
خَلَّدَتْimmortalized رِحْلَةَthe journey of الرَّئِيسِthe president الجَّلِيلِillustrious
خَلَّدَتْ رِحْلَةَ الرَّئِيسِ الجَّلِيلِ
Pages whose ink is loyalty
Have immortalized the illustrious president's journey,
وَأَبَانَتْand revealed عَمَّاabout what تَكِنُّharbor الطَّوَايَاthe heart's depths
وَأَبَانَتْ عَمَّا تَكِنُّ الطَّوَايَا
لِلزَّعِيمِfor the leader الحُرِّfree النَّزِيهِupright النَّبِيلِnoble
لِلزَّعِيمِ الحُرِّ النَّزِيهِ النَّبِيلِ
And revealed what hearts harbor
For the free, upright, noble leader.
سَنَحَتْcame لِلصَّعِيدِto Upper Egypt فِيon يَوْمِa day of يُمْنٍgood fortune
سَنَحَتْ لِلصَّعِيدِ فِي يَوْمِ يُمْنٍ
حُظْوَةٌan honor جَاوَزَتْsurpassed مَدَىthe reach of التْأمِيلِhope
حُظْوَةٌ جَاوَزَتْ مَدَى التْأمِيلِ
On an auspicious day, Upper Egypt received
An honor beyond the reach of hope.
قَامَarose فِيهَاin it عَلَىof هَوَاهُits love دَلِيلٌproof
قَامَ فِيهَا عَلَى هَوَاهُ دَلِيلٌ
لاَnot يُمَارِيdisputes بَلْrather قَامَarose أَلْفُa thousand دَلِيلproofs
لاَ يُمَارِي بَلْ قَامَ أَلْفُ دَلِيل
In it arose proof of its love—
Beyond dispute; indeed, a thousand proofs arose.
وَبدَاand appeared مِنfrom حِفَاظِهِits fidelity كلُّevery مَذْخُوtreasure (word continues)
وَبدَا مِن حِفَاظِهِ كلُّ مَذْخُو
رٍending of 'treasure' كَرِيمٍnoble فِيin كُلِّevery رَسْمٍform جَمِيلِbeautiful
رٍ كَرِيمٍ فِي كُلِّ رَسْمٍ جَمِيلِ
And from its fidelity emerged every treasure,
Of noble worth, in every beautiful form.
رِحْلَةٌa journey لاnot يَحِيطُencompasses وَصْفُthe account of بَلِيغٍan eloquent speaker
رِحْلَةٌ لا يَحِيطُ وَصْفُ بَلِيغٍ
بِكَثِيرٍmuch مِنْهَاof it وَلاَnor بِقَلِيلِa little
بِكَثِيرٍ مِنْهَا وَلاَ بِقَلِيلِ
A journey no eloquent speaker's account can encompass,
In large part or in small.
أَيْنَwhere مِنْbeside رَوْعَةِthe splendor of الحَقِيقَةِreality فِيهَاin it
أَيْنَ مِنْ رَوْعَةِ الحَقِيقَةِ فِيهَا
مَاwhat يَطِيقُcan achieve البَيَانُeloquence مِنْin the way of تَمْثِيلِportrayal
مَا يَطِيقُ البَيَانُ مِنْ تَمْثِيلِ
Where, beside the splendor of its reality,
Stands what eloquence can portray?
كَيْفَhow تَصْوِيرِto portray أُمَّةٍa nation قَدْhas تَلاَقَتْgathered
كَيْفَ تَصْوِيرِ أُمَّةٍ قَدْ تَلاَقَتْ
فِيin احْتِشَادٍa mass gathering عَلَىalong امْتِدَادِthe length of النِّيلِthe Nile
فِي احْتِشَادٍ عَلَى امْتِدَادِ النِّيلِ
How can one portray a nation that has gathered
In a great assembly along the length of the Nile?
أَيُّwhat رَجْعٍecho يُعِيدُreproduces إِيقَاعَهاits rhythm الرَّائِعَwondrous
أَيُّ رَجْعٍ يُعِيدُ إِيقَاعَها الرَّائِعَ
بَينَamid التَّكْبِيرِcries of 'God is greatest' وَالتَّهْلِيلِand cries of 'There is no god but God'
بَينَ التَّكْبِيرِ وَالتَّهْلِيلِ
What echo can reproduce its wondrous rhythm
Amid cries of 'God is greatest' and 'There is no god but God'?
أَبْرَزَتْrevealed فِيin لِقَائِهَاits meeting with مُصْطَفَاهاits chosen one
أَبْرَزَتْ فِي لِقَائِهَا مُصْطَفَاها
مَاwhat أَكَنَّتْit had harbored لَهُfor him مِنَof التَّبْجِيلِveneration
مَا أَكَنَّتْ لَهُ مِنَ التَّبْجِيلِ
In meeting its chosen one, it revealed
The veneration it had harbored for him,
فِيin مِثَالٍa display مِنَof الحَفَاوَةِwarm welcome لَمْnot يُشْهَدْwas witnessed
فِي مِثَالٍ مِنَ الحَفَاوَةِ لَمْ يُشْهَدْ
لَهُfor it فِيin جَلاَلِهِits grandeur مِنْany مَثِيلِequal
لَهُ فِي جَلاَلِهِ مِنْ مَثِيلِ
In a display of welcome—never was there seen
A match for it in grandeur.
تِلْكَthat ذِكْرَىa memory خُطَّتْwas inscribed عَلَىupon جَبْهَةِthe brow of الدَّهْرِTime
تِلْكَ ذِكْرَى خُطَّتْ عَلَى جَبْهَةِ الدَّهْرِ
وَفِيهَاand in it هُدَىguidance لِجِيلٍfor a generation فَجِيلِthen another generation
وَفِيهَا هُدَى لِجِيلٍ فَجِيلِ
That is a memory inscribed upon the brow of Time,
And in it is guidance for generation after generation.
