O lofty-peaked eminence of the East,

And the Sultan’s right arm in Morocco,

The safety of those who love you and the terror of foes,

And the ornament of throne and office,

And a rain cloud of bounty, leaving its mark

On the uplands of the drought-stricken land.

We have indeed seen in you, amid our hardship,

What the nobles of Ya‘rub once were.

It is al-Tuhami al-Glaoui’s right to

Unite all glory and noble lineage.

You made pilgrimage to God’s House—a pilgrimage with

    Good effects in its wake.

So the valley grew fertile and the rock gushed forth,

And God was pleased and the Prophet was gladdened.
