Oh, how lovely is the gazelle's sister,

Led as a bride to one like the crescent moon!

Have you seen her in her royal gown,

    Surpassing in beauty,

    In that gossamer fabric,

More fragile than the gentle breezes of the north?

As though it were woven from what

She reveals of gentleness of character.

    In its gleaming white,

The light of her chastity shimmers.

    Her words quench thirst,

And go down like clear, sweet water.

    Her manners are adorned

With the subtlest touch of coquetry.

Her hand is deft, though not fashioned

    For a trade or toil;

Yet in the arts it brings forth

All that is original and precious.

    Her fingertips run over

    The keyboard with lawful magic.

    Then, behold, droplets of dew

    Rise above keys aflame.

From the swelling rhythm they emerge,

    One by one, like pearls.

And in her voice, enchanting song springs

    From inspiration brilliant and sublime.

If every grace is perfected in you,

    And well they deserve perfection,

No wonder, Olga, when your mother

Is the finest of ladies of curtained chambers.

And your father is one whose like the land

    Takes pride in among men.

Which of the noble is adorned like him

    With praiseworthy virtues?

    Live, you and beloved Maurice,

    In happiness and tranquil ease.

Maurice is his father's very essence,

In nobility of disposition and character.

Is there among the young another like that

Front-runner in the most fruitful field,

Whose features are clear as signs

In the blackness of the nights,

Whose character is sound, though the days

    Are days of occupation,

Whose resolve is exemplary, like the zeal

Of his father in pursuit of the heights?

And it is nobility enough for him that he

Follows him as the loftiest example.

O wedded pair, may you both be gladdened by

    The cup of union.

    And savor this life

In joy and peace of mind.

    And beget righteous sons,

So you may perpetuate the finest family.
