أَمِينُ يَحْيَى دُعَاءٌ

أَمِينُ يَحْيَى دُعَاءٌ

وَاسْمٌ تَضَمَّنَ وَصْفَهْ

وَاسْمٌ تَضَمَّنَ وَصْفَهْ

Amīn Yaḥyā—“may Amīn live!”—a prayer,

and a name embodying his character.

يَأْبَى عَلَى مُصِيبَاتِ الـ

يَأْبَى عَلَى مُصِيبَاتِ الـ

ـحَلِيمِ أَنْ تَسْتَخِفَّهْ

ـحَلِيمِ أَنْ تَسْتَخِفَّهْ

He will not let the misfortunes of the

forbearing man unsettle him.

نِعْمَ الرَّئِيسُ رَئِيسٌ

نِعْمَ الرَّئِيسُ رَئِيسٌ

لا يُنْكِرُ الْحَزْمُ ظَرْفَهْ

لا يُنْكِرُ الْحَزْمُ ظَرْفَهْ

What a fine leader—a leader

whose wit firmness does not disown.

يُجرِي السَّفِينَة وَاليُمْـ

يُجرِي السَّفِينَة وَاليُمْـ

ـنُ فِي اتِّجَاهِ الدَّفَّهْ

ـنُ فِي اتِّجَاهِ الدَّفَّهْ

He steers the ship, and good

fortune lies where the rudder points.

بِحُسْنِ رَأْيٍ يَذودُ الـ

بِحُسْنِ رَأْيٍ يَذودُ الـ

ـزَّمَانُ عَنْهَا وَصَرْفَهْ

ـزَّمَانُ عَنْهَا وَصَرْفَهْ

With sound judgment he wards off

time and its vicissitudes from her.

وَالنُّجْحُ فِي الْعَمَلِ الْـ

وَالنُّجْحُ فِي الْعَمَلِ الْـ

ـحُرِّ أَنْ تلائِمَ ظَرْفَهْ

ـحُرِّ أَنْ تلائِمَ ظَرْفَهْ

And success in work

freely pursued lies in adapting to its circumstances.

لَقَدْ رَمى أَيَّ مَرْمَى

لَقَدْ رَمى أَيَّ مَرْمَى

بِعَوْنِ مَنْ لَفَّ لَفَّهْ

بِعَوْنِ مَنْ لَفَّ لَفَّهْ

Indeed, what a mark he has aimed for,

with the help of those who followed his lead!

هُمْ نُخْبَةٌ إِنْ يَقِلُّوا

هُمْ نُخْبَةٌ إِنْ يَقِلُّوا

فَأَوَّلُ السَّيْلِ شَعْفَهْ

فَأَوَّلُ السَّيْلِ شَعْفَهْ

They are a select company, though few;

for a torrent begins with a light shower.

تَالَّفُوا لِلرُّقِيِّ الـ

تَالَّفُوا لِلرُّقِيِّ الـ

ـمَرُومِ أَحْسَنَ أُلْفَهْ

ـمَرُومِ أَحْسَنَ أُلْفَهْ

They joined together for the advancement

they sought, in the finest fellowship.

سَمَتْ مُنَاهُمْ وهَبوا

سَمَتْ مُنَاهُمْ وهَبوا

لا يَعْبَأُونَ بِكُلْفَهْ

لا يَعْبَأُونَ بِكُلْفَهْ

Their aspirations soared, and they sprang into action,

heedless of any cost.
