هَنِيئاً أَيُّهَا المَلِكُ الهُمَامُ

هَنِيئاً أَيُّهَا المَلِكُ الهُمَامُ

وَأَوْلَى أَنْ نُهَنِّئَهُ المَقَامُ

وَأَوْلَى أَنْ نُهَنِّئَهُ المَقَامُ

Congratulations, O valiant king!

Yet your station deserves our congratulations still more.

بِحَسْبِ عُلاكَ أَنكَ هَاشِمِيٍّ

بِحَسْبِ عُلاكَ أَنكَ هَاشِمِيٍّ

فَمَا يَرْقَى رُقِيَّكُمُ الأَنَامُ

فَمَا يَرْقَى رُقِيَّكُمُ الأَنَامُ

It suffices for your eminence that you are a Hashemite;

For humankind cannot rise to your heights.

وَإِنَّ مَكَانَكُمْ فِي كُلِّ عَصْرٍ

وَإِنَّ مَكَانَكُمْ فِي كُلِّ عَصْرٍ

يَحِق لَهُ الوَلاءُ وَالاِحْتِرَامُ

يَحِق لَهُ الوَلاءُ وَالاِحْتِرَامُ

And indeed your standing, in every age,

Is owed allegiance and respect.

أَيَنْسَى العُربُ مُنْقِذَهُمْ حُسَيْناً

أَيَنْسَى العُربُ مُنْقِذَهُمْ حُسَيْناً

وَمَا أَبْلَى بُنُوَّتُهُ العِظَامُ

وَمَا أَبْلَى بُنُوَّتُهُ العِظَامُ

Can the Arabs forget Hussein, their deliverer,

And what his great sons accomplished?

غَطَارِفَةٌ بَنَوْا مَجْداً جديداً

غَطَارِفَةٌ بَنَوْا مَجْداً جديداً

يَزِيدُ جَلالَهُ المَجْدُ القُدَامُ

يَزِيدُ جَلالَهُ المَجْدُ القُدَامُ

Noble lords who built a new glory,

Whose splendor is enhanced by ancient glory.

وَمَنْ يُحْصِي لعبدِ اللهِ فَضْلاً

وَمَنْ يُحْصِي لعبدِ اللهِ فَضْلاً

إِذَا عُدَّتْ مَسَاعِيهِ الجِسَامُ

إِذَا عُدَّتْ مَسَاعِيهِ الجِسَامُ

And who can reckon Abdullah's merit,

When his mighty endeavors are counted?

حِلًى وَشَمَائِل فِيهِ تَلاقَتْ

حِلًى وَشَمَائِل فِيهِ تَلاقَتْ

فَرَائِدُهَا وَيَجْمَعُهَا نِظَامُ

فَرَائِدُهَا وَيَجْمَعُهَا نِظَامُ

Adornments and virtues—in him have met

Their peerless pearls, gathered on one thread.

جَمَالٌ فِي جَلالٍ جَاءَ بِدْعاً

جَمَالٌ فِي جَلالٍ جَاءَ بِدْعاً

تَمَامُهُمَا وَقَدْ عَزَّ التَّمَامُ

تَمَامُهُمَا وَقَدْ عَزَّ التَّمَامُ

Beauty within majesty—unprecedented

Is their perfection, though perfection is so rare.

ذَكَاءٌ نُورُهُ أَبَداً مُضِيءٌ

ذَكَاءٌ نُورُهُ أَبَداً مُضِيءٌ

فَمَا يَغْشَى أَشِعَّتَهُ ظَلامُ

فَمَا يَغْشَى أَشِعَّتَهُ ظَلامُ

Intelligence—its light is ever radiant,

So no darkness veils its rays.

مضاءٌ كَمْ يَفُلُّ شَباةَ رَأْيٍ

مضاءٌ كَمْ يَفُلُّ شَباةَ رَأْيٍ

وَرَأْيٌ كَمْ يُفُلُّ بِهِ حُسَامُ

وَرَأْيٌ كَمْ يُفُلُّ بِهِ حُسَامُ

Resolve that often blunts the edge of a scheme,

And judgment by which many a sword is blunted.

نَدًى بِمَوَاقِعِ الحَاجَاتِ يَهْمِي

نَدًى بِمَوَاقِعِ الحَاجَاتِ يَهْمِي

أَمِنْهُ تَعَلَّمَ الجُودَ الغَمَامُ

أَمِنْهُ تَعَلَّمَ الجُودَ الغَمَامُ

Generosity that rains down wherever there is need—

Did the clouds learn generosity from him?

بَيَانٌ يَنْتَشِى الأُدَبَاءُ مِنْهُ

بَيَانٌ يَنْتَشِى الأُدَبَاءُ مِنْهُ

فَهُمْ كَالشَّارِبِينَ وَلا مُدَامُ

فَهُمْ كَالشَّارِبِينَ وَلا مُدَامُ

Eloquence that intoxicates men of letters,

So they are like drinkers, though there is no wine.

حَدِيثٌ تَصْدُرُ الأَلْبَابُ عَنْهُ

حَدِيثٌ تَصْدُرُ الأَلْبَابُ عَنْهُ

وَمَا تَدْرِي أَسِحْرٌ أَمْ كَلامُ

وَمَا تَدْرِي أَسِحْرٌ أَمْ كَلامُ

Speech from which minds come away,

Not knowing whether it is magic or speech.

أَعَبْدَ الله هَذَا اليومُ وَافَى

أَعَبْدَ الله هَذَا اليومُ وَافَى

وَللدنْيَا بِبَهْجَتِهِ ابْتِسَامُ

وَللدنْيَا بِبَهْجَتِهِ ابْتِسَامُ

O Abdullah, this day has arrived,

And its joy brings a smile to the world.

فمصر تُهَنِّيءُ الأُرْدُنَّ فِيهِ

فمصر تُهَنِّيءُ الأُرْدُنَّ فِيهِ

و لُبْنَانُ يُهَنِّيءُ وَالشَّآمُ

و لُبْنَانُ يُهَنِّيءُ وَالشَّآمُ

So Egypt congratulates Jordan on this day,

And Lebanon offers congratulations, as does al-Sham.

وَمَا فِي مَنْزِلٍ للعُرْبِ إِلاَّ

وَمَا فِي مَنْزِلٍ للعُرْبِ إِلاَّ

تَباشِير وَزِينَاتٌ تُقَامُ

تَباشِير وَزِينَاتٌ تُقَامُ

And there is nothing in any Arab home but

Glad tidings and decorations on display.

فَلا بِدْعٌ إِذَا اعْتمِدَتْ فَضَافَتْ

فَلا بِدْعٌ إِذَا اعْتمِدَتْ فَضَافَتْ

رِحَابُكَ وَالزُفُودُ لَهَا زِحَامُ

رِحَابُكَ وَالزُفُودُ لَهَا زِحَامُ

No wonder, then, if they are sought out and grow cramped—

Your spacious courts, with delegations thronging there.

يُؤَلِّفُ بَيْنَ حُضَّارٍ وَبَدْوٍ

يُؤَلِّفُ بَيْنَ حُضَّارٍ وَبَدْوٍ

بِهَا عَهْدُ العُرُوبَةِ وَالذِّمامُ

بِهَا عَهْدُ العُرُوبَةِ وَالذِّمامُ

Townsfolk and Bedouins are brought together

There by the covenant of Arabhood and bonds of honor.

تحَيِّي عَاهِلاً فِي كُلِّ قَلْبٍ

تحَيِّي عَاهِلاً فِي كُلِّ قَلْبٍ

لَهُ الأَمْرُ المُطَاعُ والاحْتِكَامُ

لَهُ الأَمْرُ المُطَاعُ والاحْتِكَامُ

They salute a monarch; in every heart

His command is obeyed, his judgment sought.

وَتَغْبِط أُمَّةً بهُدَاكَ أَضْحَتْ

وَتَغْبِط أُمَّةً بهُدَاكَ أَضْحَتْ

وَجَانِبُهَا عَزِيزٌ لا يُرَامُ

وَجَانِبُهَا عَزِيزٌ لا يُرَامُ

And they envy a nation that, under your guidance, has grown

Mighty of flank, beyond assault.

فَجَلَّتْ وَهْيَ قَدْ قَلَّتْ عَدِيداً

فَجَلَّتْ وَهْيَ قَدْ قَلَّتْ عَدِيداً

عَلَى أَنَّ القَلِيلَ هُمُ الكِرَامُ

عَلَى أَنَّ القَلِيلَ هُمُ الكِرَامُ

So she has grown great, though small in number,

Yet the few are the noble ones.

بِمَا أُوتيتَ مِنْ حَزْمٍ وَعَزْمٍ

بِمَا أُوتيتَ مِنْ حَزْمٍ وَعَزْمٍ

أَدَرْتَ أُمُورَهَا وَعَدَاكَ ذَامُ

أَدَرْتَ أُمُورَهَا وَعَدَاكَ ذَامُ

With the prudence and resolve bestowed on you,

You have managed her affairs, and blame has passed you by.

فَعِشْ واسْلَمْ لَهَا تَسْعَدْ وَتَمْجُدْ

فَعِشْ واسْلَمْ لَهَا تَسْعَدْ وَتَمْجُدْ

وَمَنْ تَحْمِي حِمَاهُ لا يُضَامُ

وَمَنْ تَحْمِي حِمَاهُ لا يُضَامُ

So live and stay safe for her; may you prosper and win glory.

And he whose domain you guard shall not be wronged.
