King of Iraq, homage and peace!

You are the crescent, yet fullness has not eluded you.

How fair this crown upon this boy!

Love for him is truer, and honor too.

And esteem for him further affirms love.

You are not being bargained with, nor ever will be.

You visited the nations to whom you have been

The best of neighbors—how welcome the visit!

Spring carpeted your road with blossoms,

And a cloud went forth heralding clouds.

    تَمْشِي عَلَى دِيبَاجِهِ الأَقْدَامُ

    And earth adorned herself, and fine silk spread its patterns;

    Feet tread upon its brocade.

And green groves vied in adornment,

And the mountains gushed with Kawthar's waters.

Egypt greeted you, thus greeting the hope

At whose light the flower buds unfold.

    And Alexandria's joy increased

When your beaming face shone within her.

So your charms shone before them, and in their eyes

The granting of a glance is a favor.

Arabdom, though its sects are many, has nothing

But a solitary void [as written] and a covenant.

They are, in truth, one people, even if

The divider claims that they are many peoples.

Live and flourish, O branch of the noblest tree,

Whose branches' nobility the ages have guaranteed.

And his sons have long been great.

Ghazi watches over you from on high, and Faisal too,

And your maternal and paternal uncles honor you.

    وَالحَق مَا كَلأُوهُ لَيْسَ يُضَامُ

    Trustees of glory, they guard its heritage;

And right, so long as they guard it, suffers no wrong.

How great the task for which they look to you!

So grow great, and may steadfast glory endure.

And enjoy a life whose serenity is not disturbed,

After the worldwide conflict, by any conflict.

Kingship in Baghdad is free and firmly rooted,

And life in the City of Peace is peace.

    يُبْغَى بِهَا ثَمَنٌ وَلَيْسَ تُسَامُ

    My lord, this is a bouquet offered as a gift;

No price is sought for it, nor is it put up for sale.

From a garden whose flowers are Arabic,

And whose arrangement is a work of lofty art.

Today you delight in listening to its words,

And tomorrow it will be honored in remembrance.

Its proud rhymes were enticed by the fact that

Poetry has a place on this occasion.

    وَالشِّعْرُ فِي إِطْلاقِهِ إِلْهَامُ

    And poetry, bound by hope, is craftsmanship;

And poetry, set free, is inspiration.
