وَمَنْand who مِثْلُlike جُرْجُGeorge طَاهِرُpure النَّفْسِthe soul وَالْهَوَand desire (word continues)
وَمَنْ مِثْلُ جُرْجُ طَاهِرُ النَّفْسِ وَالْهَوَ
ىَfinal letter of 'desire' وَمَنْand who مِثْلُهُlike him حُرٌّfree وَمَنْand who مِثْلُهُlike him نَجْدُvaliant
ىَ وَمَنْ مِثْلُهُ حُرٌّ وَمَنْ مِثْلُهُ نَجْدُ
And who is like George, pure of soul and desire?
Who is like George Tahir, so pure of soul and fancy?
And who is as free as he, and who as valiant?
Who is like him, so free, and who is like him, so generous?
وَثَوْبٌeager to spring إِلَىtoward كَشْفِredressing الظَّلاَمَاتِthe injustices سَاكِنٌat ease
وَثَوْبٌ إِلَى كَشْفِ الظَّلاَمَاتِ سَاكِنٌ
إِلَىin بَأْسِهِhis might فِيat حِينَa time when لاَnot تَأْمَنُfeel safe الأُسْدُthe lions
إِلَى بَأْسِهِ فِي حِينَ لاَ تَأْمَنُ الأُسْدُ
Eager to spring to redress injustices, secure
Calmly revealing the darkest veils,
in his might, when the lions feel unsafe.
Fierce when even lions are unsafe.
تَخَيَّرَhe chose فِيamong الأَنْسَابِthe lineages أَصْدَقَهَاthe truest of them عُلىًin loftiness
تَخَيَّرَ فِي الأَنْسَابِ أَصْدَقَهَا عُلىً
وَأَبْعَدَهَاand the farthest of them مَرْمىًin reach فَتَمَّso was fulfilled لَهُfor him الْقَصْدُthe purpose
وَأَبْعَدَهَا مَرْمىً فَتَمَّ لَهُ الْقَصْدُ
He chose among lineages the most truly exalted,
He chose the truest lineage,
and the farthest-reaching; thus his purpose was fulfilled.
And the farthest-reaching goal, thus perfecting his aim.
وَأَيand what نَسيبٍman of noble lineage بَلِغٍhas attained بِمُقَامِهِthrough his standing
وَأَي نَسيبٍ بَلِغٍ بِمُقَامِهِ
مُقَامَthe standing نَجِيبٍof a noble man فيamong الْكِرَامِthe noble إِذَاwhen عُدوْthey are counted
مُقَامَ نَجِيبٍ في الْكِرَامِ إِذَا عُدوْ
And what man of noble lineage has, through his standing, attained
What noble kinsman has attained his station,
the standing of a noble man among the noble, when they are counted?
The rank of a noble one, generous when counted?
