وَمَنْ لَكَ فِي الْفِتْيَانِ بِالْفَاضِلِ الَّذِي لَـ

وَمَنْ لَكَ فِي الْفِتْيَانِ بِالْفَاضِلِ الَّذِي لَـ

ـهُ نُبْلُ مِيخَائِيل وَالْحُلْمُ وَالرِّفْدُ

ـهُ نُبْلُ مِيخَائِيل وَالْحُلْمُ وَالرِّفْدُ

And who can find you, among young men, a virtuous man with—

And who among the youths is like the virtuous one

Mikhail’s nobility, forbearance, and generosity?

Who has the nobility of Michael, wisdom and generosity

يُؤَلِّفُ أَشْتَاتَ الْمَحَامِدِ جَاهِداً

يُؤَلِّفُ أَشْتَاتَ الْمَحَامِدِ جَاهِداً

بِإِخْفَاءِ بَادِيهَا فَيَظْهَرُهُ الْحَمْدُ

بِإِخْفَاءِ بَادِيهَا فَيَظْهَرُهُ الْحَمْدُ

He gathers diverse praiseworthy qualities, striving

He brings together scattered praises striving

To conceal their outward signs, yet praise reveals him.

To hide the flaws so praise shines through

كَبِيرُ الْمُنَى جَمُّ الفَضَائِلِ جَامِعٌ

كَبِيرُ الْمُنَى جَمُّ الفَضَائِلِ جَامِعٌ

إِلى الأَدَبِ السِّلسَالِ طَبْعاً هَوَ الشَّهْدُ

إِلى الأَدَبِ السِّلسَالِ طَبْعاً هَوَ الشَّهْدُ

Lofty in aspiration, rich in virtues, he joins

Great of purpose, perfection embodied, combining

To flowing eloquence a nature that is honey.

Eloquence and gentle disposition like honey

يُصَغِّرُ لِلْعَافِي مِنَ النَّاسِ نَفْسَهُ

يُصَغِّرُ لِلْعَافِي مِنَ النَّاسِ نَفْسَهُ

وَيُكْبِرَهَا عَنْ أَنْ يَلِمَّ بِهَا الْحِقْدُ

وَيُكْبِرَهَا عَنْ أَنْ يَلِمَّ بِهَا الْحِقْدُ

He humbles himself before those among men who seek aid,

He humbles himself before the virtuous

And raises himself above the reach of rancor.

And rises above being touched by hatred
