يَا لَها مِنْ فَتَاةِ عِزٍّ نَمَاهَا
عُنْصُرٌancestral stock يَرْتَقِيascends إِلَىto الجَوْزَاءِal-Jawza (a constellation)
عُنْصُرٌ يَرْتَقِي إِلَى الجَوْزَاءِ
Ah, what a maiden of honor, nurtured
O what a maiden of honor she grew
By ancestral stock that rises to al-Jawza!
Of a lineage reaching high into glory's stars
فِيamong بُنَاةِbuilders العُلَىgreatness أَبُوAbu (father of) شَنَبٍShanab (name)
فِي بُنَاةِ العُلَى أَبُو شَنَبٍ
شَادُواthey built صُرُوحاًlofty edifices لِلعِزَّةِfor honor القَعْسَاءِunassailable
شَادُوا صُرُوحاً لِلعِزَّةِ القَعْسَاءِ
Among the builders of greatness is Abu Shanab;
Among the builders of grandeur, Abu Shannab
They raised lofty edifices for unassailable honor.
Who erected palaces for the tawny-hued pride
حَسَبٌancestral honor زَادَهُincreased it سَنىradiance وَسَنَاءًand grandeur
حَسَبٌ زَادَهُ سَنى وَسَنَاءً
نَسَبٌlineage جَامِعُuniting السَّنىradiance وَالسِّناءِand grandeur
نَسَبٌ جَامِعُ السَّنى وَالسِّناءِ
Ancestral honor, enhanced in radiance and grandeur
Lineage sufficed him, enhanced by excellence
By a lineage uniting radiance and grandeur.
A lineage encompassing excellence and eminence
زَفَّhe led as a bride عَذْرَاءَهُمْtheir maiden إِلَىto كُفُؤٍa worthy match لَيـis not (first fragment)
زَفَّ عَذْرَاءَهُمْ إِلَى كُفُؤٍ لَيـ
ـسَis not (final fragment) لَهُfor him فِيamong السَّرَاةِthe nobles مِنْany (emphasizing negation) أَكْفَاءِequals
ـسَ لَهُ فِي السَّرَاةِ مِنْ أَكْفَاءِ
He led their maiden as a bride to a worthy match, who
They gave their maiden in marriage to a mate
Has no equals among the nobles.
Who in nobility finds no peer amongst the excellent
