    Welcome, O lord Patriarch,

    Shepherd of shepherds, virtuous and truthful.

    So let decorations be arranged around his cavalcade,

    And let flowers be strewn along the road.

    And may he ascend, amid his people's tributes,

    His throne, with good fortune and success.

    The prelates, in electing him, agreed

    On none but the foremost, worthy man:

    الكَامِلُ وَالمُفَوَّهُ المَنْطِيقِ

    Learned, active, and refined,

    Accomplished, eloquent, and fluent of speech;

    بِالقِسْطِ فِي الخَّلِيلِ وَالدَّقِيقِ

    The arbiter who, in his rulings, adheres

    To justice with the close friend and in the smallest matters;

    القَائِدُ الصَّائِنٌ لِلْحُقُوقِ

    The father tender toward his church,

    The leader who safeguards rights;

    Resolute and stern, yet never stingy

    With the kindnesses of his compassionate heart.

    Marvel at the character bestowed upon him—

    Unsullied—and at his gentle courtesy,

    And at his meekness, and at his courage,

    Which the foe esteems as does the friend.

    He who fashions pearls among his thirsty ones

    Adorns them with radiant, elegant speech.

    May Almighty God protect him, and may he remain

    The glory of the East's lands, with distinction [final wording unclear].
