The eyes of virtues wept for you, and indeed they

Know whom they mourn when people do not.

After you, is there generosity among the noblest men,

And gentleness and friendly warmth among the proud nobles?

Loyalty demanded of me an elegy for you; yet

My heart was too weak for it, and my head was already splitting.

When anguish grows intense for one who grieves, then his prose

Is tears, and his verse is measured out in breaths.

God's peace be upon you; you are indeed folded away,

Yet your excellence is something graves cannot fold away.
