You pass among the crowds alone,

    Absorbed in your poetic imagination,

As though their waves, with their clamor,

Were a cradle's rocking for that thought.

Your head shines with knowledge; it has

Bowed beneath the weight of its wonders.

If they scorn your lofty worth, do not

Wait for them to raise it, nor take heed.

And perhaps they have denied your eminence; do not

Lower a wing beneath the eagle's head.

And reveal to them your radiant soul as

A beacon in the murky depths of darkness.
