A dark-eyed beauty, radiantly fair, as though her whiteness

Were a weave of shimmering light among the blossoms.

She is peerless in splendor; when she appears,

Her path teems with processions of light.

And hers is a figure that, when it sways as she walks,

Puts the bending of swaying spear-shafts to shame.

A wondrous marvel to souls is her intelligence,

    Sparkling in her bewitching glance.

In what lamp, as in her radiant face,

Do minds behold a beacon's light?

If she converses in a gathering or debates,

Then beauty lies in hearing and sight.
