أُعَانِيI suffer مِنَfrom الدَّاءِthe illness آلامَهُits pains
وَلسْتُand I am not بِشاكٍcomplaining وَلاَnor شاكِرِthankful
I suffer the malady’s agonies;
I suffer the pains of the illness,
Yet I neither complain nor give thanks.
And I am neither complaining nor thankful.
وَمَاand no بِيَin me ظاهِرَةٌoutward sign لِلأَسىof sorrow

No outward sign of sorrow shows in me,
And no outward sign of sorrow appears in me,
Save what the eye sees in one who scoffs.
Except what the eye sees of a scoffer.
