and ward death from them with the care of the wise.

فَإِنَّ أَسقَامَهُمْ فِي كُلِّ جَارِحَةٍ

مِنَّا وَآلاَمَهُمْ فِي كُلِّ إِحْسَاسِ

مِنَّا وَآلاَمَهُمْ فِي كُلِّ إِحْسَاسِ

For their illnesses are present in every limb

of ours, and their pains in every feeling.

لِلهِ مَسْعَاتُكُمْ وَالحَقُّ يَشْكُرُهَا

مَبرَّةٌ طَهُرَتْ أَرْوَاحُكُمْ وَسمتْ

بِهَا مَرَاتِب فَوْقَ الضَّيمِ وَاليَاسِ

بِهَا مَرَاتِب فَوْقَ الضَّيمِ وَاليَاسِ

A work of charity through which your spirits were purified and rose

to ranks above oppression and despair.

هَذا الْهِلاَلُ لَكُمْ رَأْدَ النَّهارِ هُدى

وفِي اعْتِكَارِ الدَّيَاجِي خَيْرُ نِبْرَاسِ

وفِي اعْتِكَارِ الدَّيَاجِي خَيْرُ نِبْرَاسِ

This crescent is yours—a guiding light by day,

and, amid the gathering blackness of night, the finest lamp.

And beneath its shade, calling out through its mercy,

And surely, in its shade, dewy with its mercy,

is balm for the wounds of heart and head.

أَي عِصْبَةَ الْخَيْرِ دَارُوا أَبْرِيَاءَ هَوَوْا

صَرْعَى مَطامِعِ قُوَّادٍ وَسُوَّاسِ

O fellowship of goodness, tend the innocents who fell,

victims of the ambitions of commanders and politicians.

لوْ صوَّرَ فِي جِسْم مرِئٍ مَلكاً

لَصَوَّرَ المَلَكَ الإِنْسِيَّ فِي آسِ

لَصَوَّرَ المَلَكَ الإِنْسِيَّ فِي آسِ

If an angel were portrayed in a human body,

the human angel would be portrayed amid myrtle.
