هِيَ أُمَّةٌ رَوِيَ الثَّرَى بِدِمَائِهَا
What is her Fijeh Spring, for all its limpid water?
What of her Fijeh spring and her clear water?
She is a nation whose soil has been watered with her blood.
She is a nation whose blood has quenched the earth.
أَفَمَاthen, do ... not? تَرَوْنَyou see بَلاءهَاher valor فِيin نَفْحِهَاher defense

عَنْ حَوْضِهَا للهِ حُسْنُ بَلائِهَا
Do you not see the mettle she displays in defending
Then do you not see her valor in her defense
her watering-place? By God, how splendid her valor!
of her basin? By God, how noble her valor!

Battles of heroes—against the enemy charge
Battles of heroes—the foe is assailed
within them, from among her sons, men who refuse oppression.
in them by those of her sons who refuse oppression.

Were it not for my wasting illness, I would have been among those present for her
Were it not for my illness, I would have been among her witnesses
on the day of sacrifice, and I would have been among her martyrs.
on the day of sacrifice, and I would have been among her martyrs.
