O virtuous and valiant man—rejoice,
O virtuous, valiant man, rejoice,
having attained, through advancement, the loftiest station.
having risen to the highest station.
مُجْمِعاًunanimously agreeing عَارِفُوكَthose who know you أَنَّكَthat you ذُوpossessing قَدْرٍworth

All who know you agree that you are a man of worth,
All who know you agree that you are a man of worth,
worthy of this exalted honor.
deserving of this lofty honor.
رُبَّmany a سَيْفٍsword جَلاcame forth بِهِwith it الخِفْرُthe guard قُدْماًforward
بَارِقاًflashing فِيin طَلِيعَةِthe vanguard of الأَعْلامِthe banners
Many a sword has made the pledge of protection shine forth of old,
Many a sword with which the guard came forward,
flashing at the vanguard of the banners.
flashing in the vanguard of the banners;
وَتَقَلَّدْتَهُand you girded yourself with it كَمَاjust as الفَضْلُvirtue يُرْجَىis hoped for
لاnot لِحَرْبٍfor a war تُثَارُis stirred up بَلْbut rather لِسَلامِfor peace
And you have girded it on, as virtue would have one do—
and you have girded it on, as one would hope of virtue,
not for a war to be kindled, but for peace.
not for war to be stirred up, but for peace.
