وُدِّيmy affection لِرِزْقَfor Rizq اللّهِAllah وُدُaffection تَجِلَّةٍreverence
وُدِّي لِرِزْقَ اللّهِ وُدُ تَجِلَّةٍ
لأَخٍfor a brother تَحَلَىadorned himself بِالْكَمَالِwith perfection النَّادِرِrare
لأَخٍ تَحَلَى بِالْكَمَالِ النَّادِرِ
My affection for Rizq Allah is an affection of reverence
My love for Allah's sustenance is a radiant love
For a brother adorned with rare perfection.
For a brother adorned with rare perfection.
وَهَوَايَand my love مِنْfrom قِدَمٍlong ago لَهُfor him وَلآِلِهِand for his family
وَهَوَايَ مِنْ قِدَمٍ لَهُ وَلآِلِهِ
مَاnot زَالَceased أَوَّلَthe beginning of عَهْدِهِits days كَالآخِرِlike the last
مَا زَالَ أَوَّلَ عَهْدِهِ كَالآخِرِ
And my long-standing love for him and his family
My passion for him and his family
Has remained the same in its first days as in its last.
Has remained the same since I first knew him.
بَلْrather زَادَهُincreased it سِعَةًin breadth نَمُوُّthe growth of عَدِيدِهِمْtheir number
بَلْ زَادَهُ سِعَةً نَمُوُّ عَدِيدِهِمْ
فِيin كَابِرٍa noble elder مُتَسَلْسِلٍdescending in succession عَنْfrom كَابِرِa noble elder
فِي كَابِرٍ مُتَسَلْسِلٍ عَنْ كَابِرِ
Rather, the growth of their number has broadened it,
Rather, it has grown as their great number
In a succession of noble elders, one descending from another.
Increases, generation after generation.
وَكذاكَand likewise يَزْكُوflourishes كُلمَاwhenever طَالَlengthens الْمَدَىthe span of time
وَكذاكَ يَزْكُو كُلمَا طَالَ الْمَدَى
بَيْنَbetween الأَحِبةِloved ones كُلِّevery حُبٍّlove طَاهِرِpure
بَيْنَ الأَحِبةِ كُلِّ حُبٍّ طَاهِرِ
And thus, as time stretches on, there flourishes
Thus true love always grows stronger
Every pure love between loved ones.
The longer the cherished bond endures.
يَاO حَبَّذَاhow wonderful أبْنَاؤُهُhis sons وَبَنَاتُهِand his daughters
يَا حَبَّذَا أبْنَاؤُهُ وَبَنَاتُهِ
مِنْof نُخْبَةٍa select company غُرُّradiant ones كَعِقْدِlike a necklace of جَوَاهِرِjewels
مِنْ نُخْبَةٍ غُرُّ كَعِقْدِ جَوَاهِرِ
How wonderful are his sons and his daughters,
Blessed be his sons and daughters -
Of a select company, radiant as a necklace of jewels.
A choice selection like a necklace of gems,
يَخْتَارُchooses مِنْهُfrom it الْمَجْدُglory كُلَّeach فَرِيدَةٍpeerless gem
يَخْتَارُ مِنْهُ الْمَجْدُ كُلَّ فَرِيدَةٍ
لِتكونَso that it may be وَاسِطَةًa centerpiece لِعَقْدٍfor a necklace فَاخِرِsplendid
لِتكونَ وَاسِطَةً لِعَقْدٍ فَاخِرِ
From it, glory chooses each peerless gem
From which glory selects each unique one
To be the centerpiece of a splendid necklace.
To form a splendid threaded bond.
يَاO مَحْفِلاًa gathering هُوَit لِلفُؤَادِto the heart مَسَرَّةٌa joy
يَا مَحْفِلاً هُوَ لِلفُؤَادِ مَسَرَّةٌ
فِيon لَيْلَةٍa night هِيَit قُرَّةٌa delight لِلنَّاظِرِto the beholder
فِي لَيْلَةٍ هِيَ قُرَّةٌ لِلنَّاظِرِ
O gathering that is a joy to the heart,
O what joyous company they are, delighting the heart
On a night that is a delight to the beholder.
On a night that brings joy to the beholder.
جَمَعَgathered الشَّتيتَthe scattered مِنَof الْمَحَاسِنَbeauties فِيهِمَاin them both
جَمَعَ الشَّتيتَ مِنَ الْمَحَاسِنَ فِيهِمَا
مَاwhat بَيْنَbetween زَهْرٍflowers تُجْتَلَىare beheld وَأَزَاهِرِand blossoms
مَا بَيْنَ زَهْرٍ تُجْتَلَى وَأَزَاهِرِ
It gathered scattered beauties in them both,
The scattered virtues are gathered in them,
Amid flowers to be admired and blossoms.
Like plucked flowers and blossoms.
أعطيتwas bestowed رتبتهhis rank أحببhow welcome بعودتهاat its return
أعطيت رتبته أحبب بعودتها
إلىto الحمىthe sanctuary فيin ازدهارflourishing طابbecame pleasant مؤتنفاrenewed
إلى الحمى في ازدهار طاب مؤتنفا
His rank was bestowed; how welcome its return
I gave him a high rank and wished for her return
To the sanctuary, in delightful, renewed flourishing.
To the protected land, to flourish beautifully again.
هلis there منany كمالperfection لمنfor one who تسموrises مكانتهhis standing
هل من كمال لمن تسمو مكانته
كالمجدlike glory والخلقand character العاليlofty إذاwhen ائتلفاthe two unite
كالمجد والخلق العالي إذا ائتلفا
Is there, for one whose standing rises, any perfection
Can there be any greater perfection
Like glory and lofty character when they unite?
Than glory and noble manners combined?
