From the highest assembly, upon that grave,

Are angels, guardians of virtue and purity,

Prostrate at the door of the tomb where

God's chosen one came to rest, perfect in righteousness.

Peace be upon you; remain beside it and comfort

A delicate veil of beauty, afflicted by the hand of abandonment.

For the princess's soul ascended in the forenoon

To God, and you committed the pearl's shell to safekeeping.

A light bore her to a garden on high,

As the wings of dawn bear the dewdrops.

So, O master of the age, receiving condolences for her loss,

Should we fear for you today the onslaught of time?

And O noblest of fathers in kindness toward his child,

Yet it is a kindness the hand of affliction defied.

Are you, as a father, more compassionate than the All-Merciful

Toward her who has received bliss in exchange for life's pain?
