إنَّاindeed we نُحَيِّيwe salute حَفْلَكُمْyour gathering وَيُسُرُّنَاand it gladdens us
إنَّا نُحَيِّي حَفْلَكُمْ وَيُسُرُّنَا
تِكْرَارُهُits recurrence فِيin العَامِthe year بَعْدَafter العَامِthe year
تِكْرَارُهُ فِي العَامِ بَعْدَ العَامِ
We salute your gathering, and it gladdens us
We salute your gathering and we are pleased
That it recurs year after year.
To repeat it year after year
هَذَاthis التَّآلُفُthe fellowship بَيْنَكُمْamong you عَنْوَانُa sign مَاwhat
هَذَا التَّآلُفُ بَيْنَكُمْ عَنْوَانُ مَا
نَرْجُوهُwe hope for it لِلنَّشءِfor the rising generation العَزِيزِcherished النَّامِيgrowing
نَرْجُوهُ لِلنَّشءِ العَزِيزِ النَّامِي
This fellowship among you is a sign of what
This harmony amongst you is a sign of what
We hope for the cherished, growing generation.
We hope for the dear rising generation
سِيرُواwalk مَعاًtogether مُتَكَاتِفِينَsupporting one another عَلَىupon هُدىًguidance
سِيرُوا مَعاً مُتَكَاتِفِينَ عَلَى هُدىً
وَرِدُواand enter الحَيَاةَlife بِعِفَّةٍwith chastity وَنِظِامِand order
وَرِدُوا الحَيَاةَ بِعِفَّةٍ وَنِظِامِ
Walk together, shoulder to shoulder, rightly guided,
March together, united, on guidance
And enter life with chastity and order.
And bring life back with chastity and order
مَاnothing لِلضِّعَافِfor the weak سِوَىexcept تَكَافُلِهِمْtheir mutual support إِذَاwhen
مَا لِلضِّعَافِ سِوَى تَكَافُلِهِمْ إِذَا
مَاever (emphasis) وَاجَهُواthey faced الغَمَرَاتِoverwhelming ordeals فِيamong الأَقْوَامِthe peoples
مَا وَاجَهُوا الغَمَرَاتِ فِي الأَقْوَامِ
The weak have nothing but their mutual support when
The weak have nothing but their solidarity when
They face overwhelming ordeals among the peoples.
They face torrents among nations
وَاللهُand God يَكْلأُكُمْprotects you وَيَرْعَىand watches over كُلَّall مَنْwho
وَاللهُ يَكْلأُكُمْ وَيَرْعَى كُلَّ مَنْ
يَعْنِيcares بِكُمْfor you مِنْamong مُشْرِفِينَoverseers كِرَامِnoble
يَعْنِي بِكُمْ مِنْ مُشْرِفِينَ كِرَامِ
And God protects you and watches over all who
May God protect you and tend to all those
Care for you among the noble overseers,
Who care for you, honourable nobles
فِيin ظِلِّthe shade of زَيْنِthe adornment of شَبَابِthe youth of مِصْرَEgypt وَمَنْand he who لَهُhe has
فِي ظِلِّ زَيْنِ شَبَابِ مِصْرَ وَمَنْ لَهُ
فِيin الشَّرْقِthe East أَجْمَعِهِall of it أَعَزِّmost honored مَقَامِstation
فِي الشَّرْقِ أَجْمَعِهِ أَعَزِّ مَقَامِ
In the shade of the pride of Egypt's youth, and of him who holds
In the shadow of the beauty of Egypt's youth and he who
The most honored station in all the East:
Has the most honoured position in all of the East
مَلِكٌa king عَمِيمُall-embracing الخَيْرِgoodness فِيin أَكْنَافِهِhis shelter
مَلِكٌ عَمِيمُ الخَيْرِ فِي أَكْنَافِهِ
وَالعَيْشُand life عَيْشُa life of سَعَادَةٍhappiness وَسَلامِand peace
وَالعَيْشُ عَيْشُ سَعَادَةٍ وَسَلامِ
A king of boundless goodness, within whose shelter
A king, abundant in goodwill in his bosom
Life is a life of happiness and peace.
And life is a life of happiness and peace
هَذَاthis إِلَىin addition to إِنَّاindeed we حَمَدْنَاwe praised مِنْكُمُfrom you
هَذَا إِلَى إِنَّا حَمَدْنَا مِنْكُمُ
آياتِsigns وُدٍّaffection خَالِصٍsincere وَذِمَامِand loyalty
آياتِ وُدٍّ خَالِصٍ وَذِمَامِ
Moreover, we have praised in you
This is in addition to we have praised in you
Signs of sincere affection and loyalty
Signs of sincere affection and perseverance
لأخٍfor a brother لَكُمْof yours وَلَّىdeparted وَخَلَّفَand left بَيْنَكُمْamong you
لأخٍ لَكُمْ وَلَّى وَخَلَّفَ بَيْنَكُمْ
فَضَلَexcellence الرَّئِيسِof the president الأَوَّلِthe first المِقْدَامِintrepid
فَضَلَ الرَّئِيسِ الأَوَّلِ المِقْدَامِ
For a brother of yours who departed and left among you
For a brother of yours who turned away and left between you
The excellence of the first, intrepid president.
The excellence of the first valiant president
مَاnot زَالَceased هَنْرِيHenry فِيin سَوَادِthe dark depths of قُلُوبِكُمْyour hearts
مَا زَالَ هَنْرِي فِي سَوَادِ قُلُوبِكُمْ
يُلْقِيsheds الضِّيَاءَlight بِوجْهِهِwith his face البَسَّامِever-smiling
يُلْقِي الضِّيَاءَ بِوجْهِهِ البَسَّامِ
Henry still, in the dark depths of your hearts,
Henry still shines light in your hearts
Sheds light with his ever-smiling face.
With his radiant face
يَاO فُلْذَةَa piece الكَبِدِthe liver الَّذِيwho لَمْdid not يَبْقَremain مِنْof
يَا فُلْذَةَ الكَبِدِ الَّذِي لَمْ يَبْقَ مِنْ
آمَالِنَاour hopes فِيهِin him سِوَىexcept الآلامِpains
آمَالِنَا فِيهِ سِوَى الآلامِ
O piece of my liver, for whom nothing remains of
Oh piece of my liver that nothing remains for us
Our hopes but pain.
Of our hopes in him but agony
بَيْنَamong الَّذِينَthose whom عَرَفْتُهُمْI knew them وَأَلَفْتُهُمْand I befriended them
بَيْنَ الَّذِينَ عَرَفْتُهُمْ وَأَلَفْتُهُمْ
إِذَwhen كُنْتُمُyou were الزَّهْرَاتِthe blossoms فِيin الأَكْمَامِthe flower-sheaths
إِذَ كُنْتُمُ الزَّهْرَاتِ فِي الأَكْمَامِ
Among those I knew and befriended,
Among those whom I knew and befriended
When you were blossoms in their sheaths,
When you were blossoms in buds
إِخْوَانُbrothers صُدْقٍsincerity حَدَّدُواthey established لِحَبِيبِهِمْfor their beloved
إِخْوَانُ صُدْقٍ حَدَّدُوا لِحَبِيبِهِمْ
عَهْداًa pledge سَيَبْقَىwill endure آخِرَthe last of الأَيَّامِthe days
عَهْداً سَيَبْقَى آخِرَ الأَيَّامِ
Are true brothers who established for their beloved
Brothers of sincerity who pledged to their beloved
A pledge that will endure to the last of days.
A promise that will remain until the last days
شَتَّانَhow far apart بَيْنَbetween نُضَارَةٍa bloom مَوْقُوتَةٍtime-bound
شَتَّانَ بَيْنَ نُضَارَةٍ مَوْقُوتَةٍ
فَارَقْتَهَاyou left it وَنُضَارَةٍand a bloom لِدَوامِfor eternity
فَارَقْتَهَا وَنُضَارَةٍ لِدَوامِ
How vast the difference between a time-bound bloom
Far apart is freshness with an end
You left behind and a bloom that lasts forever!
You left it and lasting freshness
إِيمانُنَاour faith بِخُلُودِin the immortality of نَفْسِكَyour soul فِيin العُلَىthe heights
إِيمانُنَا بِخُلُودِ نَفْسِكَ فِي العُلَى
يَأْسُوheals جَوَانِحَنَاour hearts وَهُنَّwhile they are دَوَامِbleeding
يَأْسُو جَوَانِحَنَا وَهُنَّ دَوَامِ
Our faith in the immortality of your soul on high
Our faith in the eternity of your soul in the Highest
Heals our hearts, bleeding as they are.
Grieves our sentiments and weakens endurance
وَعَزَاؤُنَاand our consolation هُوَit is مُلْتَقَىthe meeting of أَرْوَاحِنَاour souls
وَعَزَاؤُنَا هُوَ مُلْتَقَى أَرْوَاحِنَا
بِالذِّكْرِthrough remembrance بَعْدَafter تَشَتُّتِthe scattering of الأَجْسَامِthe bodies
بِالذِّكْرِ بَعْدَ تَشَتُّتِ الأَجْسَامِ
And our consolation is the meeting of our souls
And our solace is the meeting of our souls
Through remembrance, after the scattering of bodies.
