Indeed, your throne has risen in the most exalted place,
Your throne has risen in the mightiest place,
and over it the mountain summits bow.
With mountains surrounding it on all sides.

The flowing stream pours forth from your roar,
lush gardens along both sides of its course.
On either bank, gardens of greenery arise.

It settles in the distant valley, its dwelling
with a roar most pleasing to the ears.
With a beloved murmur for ears to prize.

A torrent at a precipice whose depths lie far below,
A torrent with a tumbling, deafening din,
the rock along its descent seems almost soft.
The rock in its abyss seems clothed in white.

adorned with pearls and pure gold.
Adorned with pearls and precious jewels bright.

How precious is the time that, beside it,
How pleasurable is the time in its nearness,
is spent—and what it gives without a price!
Where peace is found and all is free from price.

Our hearts flow after it like love-sick girls,
as though they flowed carrying our sorrows.
As if they glide smoothly without any vice.

Like the perfection that eyes verify.

Adorned by the awe of its Roman crown.

adorned with lights and colors.
Decked out in lights and colors of renown.

Look now with your left at the dark, tall pillar,
reveals another form of artistry.
In it, a singular creative skill is shown.

You find the late-afternoon light split, and its gold
See the noble tree split and cracked, yet verdant,
flowing between the trunks and branches.
As sap flows down between its trunk and bough.

Below it, a crocodile lashes about,
a wave of radiance, and it gulps like one athirst.
The waves of pine trees swell and seethe and whine.

Do you see Nature, so fertile, as she came
with her breasts, filled with the most nurturing milk?
With her swelling breasts and most pure white wine.

She feeds her terraces and casts her pearls,

Freely upon the deep valleys and ravines.

For what lies below, the lofty cypress trees.

She seizes you with piety, though you lack it,
and you learn the secret of the monks' hermitages.
And you learn the secret of monks in their shrines.

The soul in its glory from the towering heights,
is bent by its majesty toward faith.
Is bent to the reverence of faith benign.
