O Safiyya of purity, struggle has bestowed on you adornments

That sickly souls in secluded chambers never bestowed.

When hearts gaze toward that majesty,

Then hopes have eyes that lower their gaze and feel abashed.

You have been a model for beautiful women by

    Removing a people's foulness—how vile their imaginings!

So their virtues protected the beautiful faces

Where curtains and face-veils were cast aside.

May you live on, and in Egypt there is solace in that:

Her defenders and womenfolk are equal in defending her.

And let the surviving Farqad star shine when

The depths of the unseen and the mists have veiled its companion.

Does consolation not ease your sorrow,

When sorrow is shared among entire nations?
