    We congratulate our teacher Adil,

And by honoring him, fulfill what is due.

He stood unrivaled among the sons of his age,

With excellence that ennobled the tongue of the Arabs.

And he was a match, in his verse

And his prose, for the masters of letters.

Thus he became Badiʿ al-Zaman—the Wonder of the Age—and it is enough for

Al-Badiʿ, should he claim kinship with him.
