نُورِNur (light) الهُدَىal-Huda (guidance) مَفْخَرَةِthe pride of الشَّرْقِthe East
نُورِ الهُدَى مَفْخَرَةِ الشَّرْقِ
A salute of reverence is offered to
Greetings of reverence are offered to
Nur al-Huda, the pride of the East.
The light of guidance, pride of the East
زَعِيمَةٌa female leader قَدْindeed خَلَّدَتْshe immortalized ذِكْرَهَاher memory
زَعِيمَةٌ قَدْ خَلَّدَتْ ذِكْرَهَا
فِيin نَصْرِهَاher championing لِلْحَقِّfor the truth بِالحَقِّwith the truth
فِي نَصْرِهَا لِلْحَقِّ بِالحَقِّ
A leader who has immortalized her memory
A leader whose fame is immortal
by championing truth with truth.
In her victory for truth and right
تَبْلُغُshe attains مَاwhatever تَبْلُغُshe attains مِنْof قَصْدِهَاher aim
تَبْلُغُ مَا تَبْلُغُ مِنْ قَصْدِهَا
بِالعَقْلِthrough reason وَالحِكْمَةِand wisdom وَالرِّفْقِand gentleness
بِالعَقْلِ وَالحِكْمَةِ وَالرِّفْقِ
Whatever she attains of her aim, she attains
She achieves her aims
through reason, wisdom, and gentleness.
With reason, wisdom and care
هَلْquestion particle تُصْلِحُshe sets right الدُّنْيَاthe world وَنِصْفُand half of الوَرَىhumankind
هَلْ تُصْلِحُ الدُّنْيَا وَنِصْفُ الوَرَى
حُرٌّfree بِهَاin it وِالنِّصفُand the half فِيin رِقَbondage
حُرٌّ بِهَا وِالنِّصفُ فِي رِقَ
Can she set the world right while half of humankind
Can she reform the world and half the globe
is free within it, and the other half in bondage?
Free under her and half still enslaved
فَهْيَso she بِبَذْلِby sacrificing النَّفْسِthe self تَبْغِيshe seeks الفِدَىredemption
فَهْيَ بِبَذْلِ النَّفْسِ تَبْغِي الفِدَى
وَهْيَand she عَلَىwith regard to الأَمْوَالِwealth لاَnot تُبْقِيshe spares
وَهْيَ عَلَى الأَمْوَالِ لاَ تُبْقِي
So, through self-sacrifice, she seeks redemption,
She sacrifices lives seeking ransom
and she spares no wealth.
And spares no treasure
كَفَىit suffices فَخَاراًas glory إِنَّindeed آمَالَهَاher hopes
كَفَى فَخَاراً إِنَّ آمَالَهَا
مِنَwith الرِّضَىapproval السَّامِيexalted عَلَىin وَفَقِaccord
مِنَ الرِّضَى السَّامِي عَلَى وَفَقِ
It is glory enough that her hopes
It is enough, pride that her hopes
are in accord with exalted approval.
Are for lofty satisfaction and accord
عَهْدُكَyour reign يَاO فَارُوقَنَاour Farouk المُجْتَبَىthe chosen one
عَهْدُكَ يَا فَارُوقَنَا المُجْتَبَى
مِنْamong نِعَمِblessings اللهِGod عَلَىupon الخَلْقِcreation
مِنْ نِعَمِ اللهِ عَلَى الخَلْقِ
Your reign, O our chosen Farouk,
Your covenant, O our chosen pioneer
is among God's blessings upon creation.
Is among God's blessings upon creation
لَمْhas not يَسْتَعِرborrowed مِنْfrom بَاطِلٍfalsehood رَوْنَقاًluster
لَمْ يَسْتَعِر مِنْ بَاطِلٍ رَوْنَقاً
وَأَلهَمَّand inspired المدَّاحَthe praise-singer بِالصدقwith truth
وَأَلهَمَّ المدَّاحَ بِالصدق
It has borrowed no luster from falsehood,
It gleaned no glamour from falsehood
and has inspired the praise-singer with truth.
And inspired the eulogist with truth
هَلْquestion particle مَنْبِتٌa seedbed لِلْخَيْرِfor goodness لَمْhas not يَرُوِهِwatered it
هَلْ مَنْبِتٌ لِلْخَيْرِ لَمْ يَرُوِهِ
مِنْكَfrom you سُحَابٌa cloud شَامِلُencompassing الوَرْقِthe foliage
مِنْكَ سُحَابٌ شَامِلُ الوَرْقِ
Is there any seedbed of goodness not watered
Was any fountain of good left unsought
by a cloud from you embracing all foliage?
By you, a cloud encompassing the land?
سَلِمْتِmay you remain safe لِلْمَلِكِfor the king العَظِيمِgreat الَّذِيwho
سَلِمْتِ لِلْمَلِكِ العَظِيمِ الَّذِي
يَنْتَظِمُencompasses النَّيلَthe Nile وَمَاand what يَسْقِيit waters
يَنْتَظِمُ النَّيلَ وَمَا يَسْقِي
May you remain safe for the great king who
You submitted to the Almighty King
encompasses the Nile and all it waters.
