حَجُّكَyour pilgrimage أَرْضَىpleased رَبِّكِyour Lord العِليَّاthe Most High
حَجُّكَ أَرْضَى رَبِّكِ العِليَّا
وَسَرَّand gladdened فِيin روضَةِthe garden النَّبِيَّاthe Prophet
وَسَرَّ فِي روضَةِ النَّبِيَّا
Your pilgrimage pleased your Lord Most High,
Your pilgrimage has pleased the Most High Lord
And gladdened the Prophet in the garden;
And delighted in the garden of the prophets
وفَاضَand overflowed بِالنَّدَىwith dew عَلَىupon وادِيthe valley الهُدىof guidance
وفَاضَ بِالنَّدَى عَلَى وادِي الهُدى
فَردَّهُso made it بَعْدَafter الصَّدىthirst روِيَّاwell-watered
فَردَّهُ بَعْدَ الصَّدى روِيَّا
And overflowed with dew upon the valley of guidance,
It overflowed with dew in the valley of guidance
Leaving it well-watered after thirst.
Then flowed back after the echo, quenched
أَكْبرhonored greatly أَهْلُthe people البَيْتِof the House فِيin أُنْسِيَةٍfellowship
أَكْبر أَهْلُ البَيْتِ فِي أُنْسِيَةٍ
طَافَتْcircled بِهِaround it إِلمَامهَاher visit العلَوِيَّاsublime
طَافَتْ بِهِ إِلمَامهَا العلَوِيَّا
The people of the House, in fellowship, honored
The greatest of the people of the house in intimacy
Her sublime visit, as that fellowship enfolded them,
It revolved around him, its supreme leader
وبسطَهاand her extending يدُthe hand المُوَاسَاةِof compassion الَّتِيwhich
وبسطَها يدُ المُوَاسَاةِ الَّتِي
أَسعدَتِbrought happiness to الحَرِيبَthe dispossessed وَالشَّقِيَّاand the wretched
أَسعدَتِ الحَرِيبَ وَالشَّقِيَّا
And her extending the hand of compassion, which
And extended it the hand of care which
Brought happiness to the dispossessed and the wretched.
Brought joy to the desolate and the wretched
زَعِيمَةُleader النَّهْضَةِof the renaissance هَلْdid ...? زرْتِyou visited حِمىa protected domain
زَعِيمَةُ النَّهْضَةِ هَلْ زرْتِ حِمى
وَلَمْand did not تيسِّريyou facilitate لَهُfor it الرُّقِيَّاprogress
وَلَمْ تيسِّري لَهُ الرُّقِيَّا
Leader of the renaissance, have you visited a domain
The leader of the renaissance, have you visited a sanctuary
Without making progress easier for it?
And not worked to elevate it
وَهَلand did ...? رَأَيْتِyou saw مُسْتَضاماًan oppressed person معُوزاneedy
وَهَل رَأَيْتِ مُسْتَضاماً معُوزا
وَلَمْand did not تَكونِيyou be المُنْصِفَthe just one الكَفِيَّاthe capable helper
وَلَمْ تَكونِي المُنْصِفَ الكَفِيَّا
And have you seen someone oppressed and needy
And have you seen a poor oppressed man
Without being a just and capable helper?
And not been the just sponsor sufficient for him
وهلْand did ...? شَهِدتِyou witnessed ظُلْمَةًdarkness غَاشِيَةًengulfing
وهلْ شَهِدتِ ظُلْمَةً غَاشِيَةً
وَلَمْand did not تَكونِيyou be الكَوْكَبَthe star الدرِياradiant
وَلَمْ تَكونِي الكَوْكَبَ الدرِيا
And have you witnessed an engulfing darkness
And have you witnessed overcoming darkness
Without being the radiant star?
And not been the shining star
الجَهْلُignorance وَالبُؤْسُand misery تعقبتهماyou pursued them both
الجَهْلُ وَالبُؤْسُ تعقبتهما
وَقَدْand already أَزَالاَthey both destroyed الخُلقَmoral character الشَّرْقِيَّاEastern
وَقَدْ أَزَالاَ الخُلقَ الشَّرْقِيَّا
Ignorance and misery—you pursued them both;
Ignorance and misery pursued them
And they had destroyed the moral character of the East.
And you removed them, oh Easterner
فَماso not رحِمتِyou spared المالwealth فِيin حرْبِهِماfighting them both
فَما رحِمتِ المال فِي حرْبِهِما
وَمَاand not ادَّخَرْتِyou held back عَزمَكِyour resolve القَوِيَّاpowerful
وَمَا ادَّخَرْتِ عَزمَكِ القَوِيَّا
So you spared no wealth in fighting them,
So you did not pity money in their war
Nor held back your powerful resolve.
And you did not hoard your strong resolve
أَدَّيتِyou fulfilled فَرضاًan obligatory duty زُدْتِهِyou added to it نَوافِلاَvoluntary devotions
أَدَّيتِ فَرضاً زُدْتِهِ نَوافِلاَ
بِهَاthrough them أَقْتَفَيْتِyou followed أَصلَكِyour lineage الزَكِيَّاvirtuous
بِهَا أَقْتَفَيْتِ أَصلَكِ الزَكِيَّا
You fulfilled a duty, adding voluntary devotions to it,
You performed an obligation, adding to it supererogations
Through which you followed the example of your virtuous lineage.
With it you followed your pure, original way
أَبُوكِyour father سُلْطَانٌSultan وَمَنْand who فِيin عَصْرِهِhis time
أَبُوكِ سُلْطَانٌ وَمَنْ فِي عَصْرِهِ
ضَارِعَmatched ذَاكَthat المُحْسِنِbenefactor السَّرِياnoble
ضَارِعَ ذَاكَ المُحْسِنِ السَّرِيا
Your father was Sultan—and who in his time
Your father is the sultan, and none in his time
Matched that noble benefactor,
Rivaled that benevolent, mysterious man
الأَروعَthe magnificent one المِقْدَامَthe valiant one فِيin ذيادِهِhis defense
الأَروعَ المِقْدَامَ فِي ذيادِهِ
عَنْon behalf of قَوْمِهِhis people وَالورعَand the devout one التقيَّاthe God-fearing one
عَنْ قَوْمِهِ وَالورعَ التقيَّا
Magnificent and valiant in defending
The most courageous, steadfast among his own
His people, and devout and God-fearing?
Protective of his people, and the devout worshipper
تَابَعْتِهِyou followed him فَضْلاًin virtue وَنُبْلاًand nobility فاسلَمِيso may you be safe
تَابَعْتِهِ فَضْلاً وَنُبْلاً فاسلَمِي
وَلْيَبْقَand may remain ذِكْرُهُhis memory المَجِيدُglorious حَيَّاalive
وَلْيَبْقَ ذِكْرُهُ المَجِيدُ حَيَّا
You followed him in virtue and nobility—so may you be safe,
You followed him in excellence and nobility, so be at peace
And may his glorious memory remain alive.
And let his glorious mention remain alive
أَهْلاًwelcome وَسلاًand welcome بِالَّتِيto her who نورُthe light الهُدَىof guidance
أَهْلاً وَسلاً بِالَّتِي نورُ الهُدَى
يَسطَعُshines فِيin اسْمِهَاher name وَفِيand in المُحَيَّاthe countenance
يَسطَعُ فِي اسْمِهَا وَفِي المُحَيَّا
Welcome, welcome to her! The light of guidance
Greetings and peace to her whom the light of guidance
Shines in her name and in her countenance.
Shines in her name and in the adorers
سَعِيتِyou strove سَعياًa striving مثمراًfruitful مبارَكاًblessed
سَعِيتِ سَعياً مثمراً مبارَكاً
وَعدتِand you returned عوْداًa return راضِياًcontented مرْضِيَّاwell-pleasing
وَعدتِ عوْداً راضِياً مرْضِيَّا
You strove with fruitful, blessed effort,
You made a fruitful, blessed effort
And returned contented and well-pleasing.
And returned satisfied, pleasing
