من شمَّ تُفاحةً لا بدَّ يأَكلها

فابعد عن المُشتَهى ان كنتَ تحذرُهُ

Whoever smells an apple is bound to eat it.

So keep away from what you desire if you fear it.

So stay away from temptation if you fear it

ولا تقل انَّ لي عَقلاً ينبهّني

ولا تقل انَّ لي عَقلاً ينبهّني

فربمّا غلب الانسانَ عنصرُهُ

فربمّا غلب الانسانَ عنصرُهُ

And do not say, 'I have a mind that warns me.'

And don't claim you have reason to alert you

For a person's nature may overpower him.

For human nature can often overpower it
