أَهلاًwelcome بأَكرمto the noblest زائرٍvisitor لمحلِّهto his own place
أَهلاً بأَكرم زائرٍ لمحلِّه
انif صحَّis fitting تَرحيبwelcoming المحلّthe place باهلهِto its own people
ان صحَّ تَرحيب المحلّ باهلهِ
Welcome to the noblest visitor to his own place—
Welcome the most generous guest of his abode
if a place may rightly welcome its own people.
If it is right for an abode to welcome its people
زارَvisited الرَئيسthe president قديمَformer معهدهِhis institution الَّذيwhich
زارَ الرَئيس قديمَ معهدهِ الَّذي
يَشتاقlongs for طلعتهُhis presence وَسابقَand the former وَصلهِhis fellowship
يَشتاق طلعتهُ وَسابقَ وَصلهِ
The president visited his former institution, which
The president visited his old institute
longs for his presence and his former fellowship.
Yearning for its dawn and preceding his arrival
كانَhe was الرئيسَthe head علىin الخُصوصِparticular بجهدهِthrough his effort
كانَ الرئيسَ على الخُصوصِ بجهدهِ
فَغَداthen he became الرَئيسَthe head علىin العمومgeneral بفضلهِthrough his merit
فَغَدا الرَئيسَ على العموم بفضلهِ
Through his efforts he was head in a particular sphere;
The president was especially diligent in his efforts
then, through his merit, became head over all.
Thus the president became generally blessed through them
ياO حافظاًkeeper of عهدthe bond المودَّةaffection انناindeed we
يا حافظاً عهد المودَّة اننا
ايضاًtoo نقابلwe reciprocate ماwhat حفظتَyou preserved بمثلهِwith its like
ايضاً نقابل ما حفظتَ بمثلهِ
O keeper of the bond of affection, we
O you who safeguard the covenant of affection, we
too return in kind what you have preserved.
Also reciprocate what you have preserved with its like
تتذكَّرyou recall العهدthe bond القَديمَold كأَنَّهُas though it were
تتذكَّر العهد القَديمَ كأَنَّهُ
لبَنmilk الرضاعsuckling لَهُof it تذكُّرrecollection طفلِهits child
لبَن الرضاع لَهُ تذكُّر طفلِه
You recall the old bond as though it were
You recall the old covenant as if it were
milk at the breast—you recall it as its nursling does.
The milk of suckling, its recollection a child recalling its milk
