ثقلا الكَريمةُ من بَني عبُّودَ قد

ثقلا الكَريمةُ من بَني عبُّودَ قد

نزلت ضَريحاً حَفَّهُ التَكريمُ

نزلت ضَريحاً حَفَّهُ التَكريمُ

The noble Thecla, of the Abboud family, has

The noble lady of the Banu 'Ubbad has passed away

Descended into a tomb encircled by honor.

And was laid to rest in a shrine adorned with honor

عاشَت بمرضاة الالهِ وبرِّهِ

عاشَت بمرضاة الالهِ وبرِّهِ

فَلَها سُرورٌ في العُلى وَنَعيمُ

فَلَها سُرورٌ في العُلى وَنَعيمُ

She lived in God's favor and His goodness;

She lived to please God with piety and righteousness

So hers are joy in the heights and bliss.

So she now enjoys bliss and bounty on high

تركت بَني يني الكرام وقد ثوت

تركت بَني يني الكرام وقد ثوت

قبراً سَقاهُ المدمع المَسجومُ

قبراً سَقاهُ المدمع المَسجومُ

She left the noble sons of Yanni and has come to rest

She left behind her noble sons in lamentation

In a grave watered by streaming tears.

At a grave watered by their copious tears

وَمسطِّرُ التأريخ يشدو فوقهُ

وَمسطِّرُ التأريخ يشدو فوقهُ

موتُ التقيّ لدى الالهِ كَريمُ

موتُ التقيّ لدى الالهِ كَريمُ

And the inscriber of the chronogram sings above it:

And the chronicler chants over it

The death of the pious is precious in God's sight.

The death of the devout is noble in God's eyes
