أرسلت لي مع الرَسولِ سَلاماً

أرسلت لي مع الرَسولِ سَلاماً

قُلتُ يا لَيتَني سلام الرَسولِ

She sent me a greeting with the messenger.

كانَ في صَدرِها هواءٌ بِهِ قد

نطقَت بالسلام اذ أُهدي لي

There was air within her breast, with which she had

uttered the greeting when it was offered to me.

ليتني طيَّ صدرها فالحَشا ما

برحت وَهيمسكنٌ لِلخَليلِ

برحت وَهيمسكنٌ لِلخَليلِ

Would that I were within her breast, for her heart has never

Would that I were the air filling her breast, so the breast would not

ceased to be Khalil’s dwelling.

Cease being a dwelling place for the beloved
