Like an electrical conductor, the eye is a conduit

between hearts and beauty, through its gaze.

Through the eye come our world's pleasure and delight,

and the eye is the dwelling place of hurt and harm.

My eye has indeed committed a sin through its glance,

so it was punished with the sores of tears and sleeplessness.

And my heart was punished when it became enamored, for it

came to be in Saqar through love's anguish and longing.
