المَرءُa man تضربهُstrikes him يدhand الدنياthe world وَلاand not
المَرءُ تضربهُ يد الدنيا وَلا
يَنفكُّbecomes detached عنهاfrom it حبهُhis love وولوعهُand his ardent attachment
يَنفكُّ عنها حبهُ وولوعهُ
The hand of the world strikes a man, yet
Man is struck by the hand of worldly life, yet
his love and ardent attachment to it never cease.
His love and passion for it do not desist
كالطَفلِlike a child يُضرَبis beaten منby ابيهِhis father وامهِand his mother
كالطَفلِ يُضرَب من ابيهِ وامهِ
واليهماand to them both ابداًalways يكونis رجوعهُhis return
واليهما ابداً يكون رجوعهُ
Like a child beaten by his father and mother,
Like a child who's beaten by his father and mother
and to them both he always returns.
Yet to them forever shall be his return
