ولربَّand many a انسانٍman عَجيبٍstrange طبعُهُhis disposition
ولربَّ انسانٍ عَجيبٍ طبعُهُ
يَهوىloves العداوةَenmity كالحسانlike beautiful women العينwide-eyed
يَهوى العداوةَ كالحسان العين
And many a man has a strange disposition:
He loves enmity as he loves fair, wide-eyed women.
لَيسَis not العجائبwonders منعداوتِهِfrom his enmity toward فَتىًa young man
لَيسَ العجائب منعداوتِهِ فَتىً
بَلrather منfrom سَلامتهِhis remaining unharmed لذاكuntil that الحينtime
بَل من سَلامتهِ لذاك الحين
The wonder is not his enmity toward a young man,
but his remaining unharmed until that time.
