وربَّAnd many a مصاحبٍcompanion لكَto you لاعتزارِunclear; likely 'to feel superior'
وربَّ مصاحبٍ لكَ لاعتزارِ
عليكover you اذاwhen اناخknelt down بكupon you الزَمانُTime
عليك اذا اناخ بك الزَمانُ
And many a companion befriends you to feel superior
By the Lord of every companion who makes excuses to you
to you when Time kneels down upon you.
When time brings you down low.
فانتَso you صديقهُhis friend ماas long as دمتَyou remain منهُin relation to him
فانتَ صديقهُ ما دمتَ منهُ
بحيثin a position where يَقولhe says مِسكينpoor; pitiable فُلانُso-and-so
بحيث يَقول مِسكين فُلانُ
So you are his friend as long as, in his eyes,
You are his friend as long as you are
you are someone he calls 'Poor so-and-so!'
In a state that makes him say "Poor so-and-so!"
