وَلي اغابيسُ الَّذي آثارهُ

تَبقى بقا ذكرٍ لهُ متكرَّرِ

Aghabis has departed, he whose traces

Remain as long as remembrance of him is renewed.

راعٍ بكتهُ رعيَّةٌ قد ساسها

راعٍ بكتهُ رعيَّةٌ قد ساسها

زمناً بهمتهِ الَّتي لم تفترِ

زمناً بهمتهِ الَّتي لم تفترِ

A shepherd mourned by a flock he had governed

For a time with his resolve, which never flagged.

وال المسرَّة في النَعيم وَما لَنا

وال المسرَّة في النَعيم وَما لَنا

من بعد ذا التأريخ غير تحسر

من بعد ذا التأريخ غير تحسر

May joy be his amid bliss, while we have

After this date nothing but sorrow.
